300e AMG TurboTechnics up and running!!!
Hey Guys,
I don't post online too often but I thought everyone might be interested a couple photos of the latest project. I've had my 300e for six years, and run it up to 195,000 miles. I always wanted to replicate the AMG hammer styling, but I needed the power to back it up. As the saying goes, a Mercedes is barely broken in at 200k, so what better to break it in than a pair of turbos and double the factory horsepower? Purchased the kit from Hughes, and with some help from a few friends and some advice from Ed (RBYCC), I did the entire installation by myself in the garage over the past couple months. The transformation truly is amazing, and I still have some tuning left to do. The next major project is a full Glasurit respray, just as soon as I find a pair of authentic AMG skirts to complete the kit....

Damn more and more of these kits are popping up. Nice mercedes, really clean everywhere.

Are you running the supplied electronics or did you use the Split Second? Changing out the supplied Fram panel filter to a K&N and changing out the supplied coil tubing will make a huge difference... Thanks guys, the install took me quite a while, tried my best to make everything integrate well to look as stock as possible. The car pulls very hard, and has been real hard to keep planted powering through corners. I'm suddenly realizing just why LSD is so important!
Rahulio - Hughes does have a website, hughes-mercedes.co.uk. Not much info on there, still have to call across the pond for the kits. I did most of my negotiation on the phone at 1am California time. I'm starting to wonder what transmission and limited slip rear end might mate up to this for best performance. Five speed automatic with the 3.27 LSD 16v rear? Manual 16v Getrag box with the same? Maybe something a bit taller could be worked up to fix the traction issues off the line and get the top speed up a bit. Anyone done anything about this yet? On another note, anyone with the TurboTechnics kit might want to check their Pcv system. Setting mine up the way I've seen in photos led to full manifold vacuum being applied on the crankcase! Could hardly pull the oil cap off at idle...

Looks like you have some hoses missing, which may be the cause of high crankcase vacuum and inability to get the oil filler cap off with the engine running. As far as choice of transmission....stay with the four speed stock box for the automatic as it is stronger and has better gear ratios then the later five speed auto. For a manual, it's whatever you can cobble together. I'm looking for a 3.67:1 rear gear as this was optimum in the late eighties in the Mosselman cars. Gave an under five second 0-60 and an eleven second 0-100.... Also gave ability to launch with less wheel spin....

ok now im totally convinced where do i find a kit for my 87 m103 i wouldn't even mind a single turbo its just the hard part of finding the exhaust manifold then from there i could probly get a good turbo from the junk yard outa a turbo diesel, boost it up a little oh yeah re do the exaust .....
