Sorry for the delay, not been on here for a while.

Yes the 6 speed swap works fine, no issues at all. It needed a custom gearbox crossmember, and I used the gearlever from a BMW in the end.

Hello, I have purchased a 6 speed manual from a 2002 C230. I am wondering about the speedometer drive. Will this be a problem matching up to my 92 300td euro?

I just went over and looked at the trans. Looks like an electrical plug about where I would expect to find a speedo drive on one with a mechanical drive. So maybe it will just plug in.

I've got a 300SEL that I want to manual swap, and a 6-speed sounds even more fun.

You might still find issues with the speedo calibration, and I don't think there's a way to calibrate the stock speedo yourself. There's always the DakotaDigital module that's available out there.

Hey Tom, glad to hear you're still tinkering. I bought a 5 speed manual swap kit from you a few years back in Upper Arlington if that rings a bell. Sounds like you and I are working on similar projects still. I to have installed an 02' c230 6speed, and am in the process of getting the speedo talking. That plug you're referring to is unfortunately the reverse switch. Though it makes hooking up your reverse lights simple. I'm using a dakota digital as another member here mentioned. Both for tach, and for speed. If you're lucky, check your rear diff to see whether it has a hall effect sensor built in that you can tap for signal (ASR or ASD equipped models do). I don't, so I'll need to mount an independent sensor to get my reading off the tail shaft. I'm thinking of using a Toyota crankshaft position sensor (the sensor, weatherproof plug and bracket are a dime a dozen at the scrap yard). I'll take a reading off one of the metal weights welded to the tail shaft from factory. Not as clean as an integrated sensor in the diff though, but hey at least it's Toyota, if it works it'll probably work for awhile!

Good luck

I believe syncro's are bronze or steel with a friction material lining.
