Got this car's best ever E/T, and MPH today but they were on different runs! If I check I'll probably find that we got our best 1/8 mile today too.

I'm trying to figure out why. Maybe my new oil is finally "broke in". Maybe it was the fact that I tried Benzer 4's air intake tubes which are of the smoother where it makes the turn variety. Maybe it was cause I turned off the radio, thus lowering the antenna and improving aerodynamics. (The radio had been tuned to the track announcements.) I also went back to flashing the converter today! As silly as some of these may sound they are all I can come up with. I don't think it was because of a great D/A but I'll check to be sure. There's no doubt it was decent but I'm confident we've run in better D/A than today's was.

I was able to get Brent, the owner of the C36, to put his car into more of a street trim condition to more closely match the trim I race Benzer 3 in but he still had the advantage of having no passenger seat cause he hadn't brought it with him. I'm still out MPHing him, he is still out E/Ting me, but his margin of victory has narrowed to just .14 second.

Best MPH: 98.83 on the 14.439 run against the C36 (two vids were made of that run, I'll link them when they get posted). Best E/T: 14.426 @ 98.30. Benzer 3 also pulled a 14.438 @ 98.03 just to prove the other two low 14.4 runs were not flukes.

I also cut a .010 light today! Unfortunately, it was on the wrong side of the light so to speak.

All you 4.2 lurkers have an even tougher goal to meet now.

More info on the hows and whys:

Do you guys remember that track day a couple of months back when I couldn't hook to save my life? After that day I switched back to the 4.2 EZL since it doesn't hit the tires as hard. (Remember how it was a tenth quicker but a MPH slower?) I wanted to hedge against having another no traction day plus I want to try it in Benzer 4 to see if my experience is different than Dave's was when he tried a different EZL in his E420. When I get some better tires under Benzer 3, I'll put back the 5.0 EZL because I want that tenth. I'll take that over an extra MPH any day. However, if I see an even bigger gain in Benzer 4, I'll probably leave it there.

Weight: This time, because I was feeling confident in the traction, I ran sans both child seats and sans spare. Everything else was in place including the jack. This wasn't the first time we've flown sans all three though. Gas: I usually arrive at the track with a little less than a 1/4 tank and I usually get the low fuel light on the way home. This time, the low fuel light was on by the middle of the day. It wasn't deliberate, it just worked out that way. We are only talking about a gallon or two anyway. Bottom line: no smoking gun here.

There is almost always a approx. 10 MPH tailwind at that track by the end of the day, The only difference this time was the tailwind started a little earlier than usual.

The temps were in the upper 70s so it's not that either.

When I really think about it, I honestly think leaving the belly pan off is where I'm getting the most help. B3 is really cooling down well now between rounds as I'm still under 80C at the end of the run rather than being at 80C already while I'm waiting for some goofball in the other lane to finish heating his tires. I know that Dave feels there is no gain in running under 80C but I remain convinced there is.

As mentioned in my last post, I went back to flashing the converter as of this most recent track day. I still believe this is the best way to launch this car. It's another thing that I believe helped E/Ts. Why don't you all try it? Maybe even try it on your 500E/E500s too.

Ever since I started running the 92 ECU (which gives a 12.5 A/F ratio under WOT) I've stopped running the CTS mod on this car as I don't want to be any richer than 12.5. As we discussed on the CTS thread, if we could find a way to get this LH M119 car to give me more advance without giving me more fuel, I'd love to try it. I'm still gonna try the mod on the M103 cars and I still highly recommend the mod to all M119 owners who have post 92 ECUs.

How do u flash the converter???

And since its easy for u to sawp the CTS, u should give it a try on the 92ECU, that way we know if the timing will help. Also if the cts gives more timing and fuel, try using the newr ECU with it, that way u'll know the best setup.

On my AMG so far i have droped the inline resitor to 0.68kohm from the 1K and im still getting knock on part throttle. prolly some on WOT which i can't hear. need to drop more it seems. :S

He means that instead of power braking, you just let the engine idle after staging and then mash the pedal when you want to launch. I prefer to pre-load the powertrain by lightly powerbraking.

Remember, I did the CTS trick before I ever had a 92 ECU and while the car was quicker (all documented on the CTS thread), it was also way more difficult to start cause the car was so rich. It gives extra fuel all the time while the 92 ECU only gives it when I want it (at WOT only). The 92 ECU also gives the quickest E/Ts. Again, I documented all this on the CTS thread. The CTS mod does definitely have it's place and I recommend it all the time, but for Benzer 3, the 92 ECU works best.

If there aren't other guys there who I want to beat, I'll go ahead and get adventurous and try the CTS mod with the 92 ECU. I always have the dummy CTS with me, I'm just afraid to monkey with the current combo when there's people there I'm trying to beat. (This time it was the C36 and the S70.) That C36 was running 14.65s in street trim so I figured: "This is in the bag, don't experiment with the combo". Then when it was our turn to run he ran the pee out of it and produced that 14.28 which is almost as quick as when his car is in "full track prep" mode. I out R/Ted him and got a clean start with no wheelspin but it's just not enough to overcome the 2.24 to 2.82 ratio spread plus the C class's lighter weight (and the fact he still had not put his front passenger seat back in). I did pull more than 1 MPH more than he did at the finish line though. Every single other run he made that day was slower than my 14.4s were (Grrr) but I still can't come here and brag about spanking a C36. I want to spank a C36 so I won't feel so bad about not having one.

On the right side of the country it looks like the M120 powered 560SL, Samson is up for tomorrow at Lebanon Valley Dragway. First time out with new Phantom Grip diff. I hope I don't break anything because I have a car show Sunday and Monday.

Twilight Street Legal Races at Fontana 7/17/10!!! We all should try our best to go to this next one in mid-July cause it's extra special because it will be the debut of nighttime racing at Fontucky! They are gonna let us run till 10:00 PM! They told me if this one is successful, they'll add more. Since we do want more night racing dates we need to get as many folks as possible to show up to this first one so they will add more! Remember, cool night air is cool!

did i tell u i raced a W209 clk 500 convertable from a roll from 1st till abt 140mph and i kept on pulling on that car in every run and in every gear. In every run he would end up atleast 2 cars bhind me.
