5 speed

My transmission wouldn't be able to take the torque from the turbos. The 5 speed is just doing alright with the 3.6L however I am not sure when the tranny will break down. At this moment I am using 190E 3.2 AMG Clutch Disc, 2.5 16V clutch and flywheel, hope it will hold up as long as possible.
My diff is 3.23 (original 2.8x forgot) and the 5th gear is 0.81.

I have no plan of turboing soon becasue the tranny is not ready for that.
I will see if the 6 speed can hold up the 3.6L first.

the 2.5 16v getrags can take alot of power 450-500lbs of torque without any issues, but it really comes down to your driving style, for the clutch find the biggest mercedes turbo diesel clutch that can fit.

the getrag 5 speed dogleg will take power of turbos.

mine is around 450 bhp and its the prop joints (donuts) and half shafts that fail.

i am using twin disk sachs paddel cluth though, not merc unit. the 190e 3.2 is only 325bhp so that plate wont be good for much more.

if your car isnt shiny, you dont know what you are talking about, remember; paint shine = knowledge. In order to be taken seriously, you should spend all your money on paint, (and get a dyno reading).
Dont forget to polish it often

i run a solid full face kevlar clutch disc, with a heavy duty pressure plate, and it seems very solid, but if you can run a sprung clutch disc

getrag

Thx everyone now I know the getrag dog leg can take so much power amount all boxes. I have one more question, which aftermarket clutch could I use and where to order from, curently I am using stock 2.5 16v 190e clutch and feel like changing it to stage 1 or even stage 2 however I have no luck finding them online. I searched Excedy however they dont make stage 1 or 2 for 190E 2.5 16v flywheel clutch.

please do tell what box do u have on the car?, the original w202c280M104 one?
and did it make the car faster by a good margin.
i mean if il looking for quicker acceleration and not control would it offer that or is the auto good enough?

i know the getrag has close ratio gearing meaning lower drop of rpms betweeen changes and that will help. but what abt ur gearbox?

Yes I am swaping a 6 speed from W203 into my car . I bougth a six speed gearbox off a W203 C220CDI engine and according to paper it will hold 40kg/ torque. I did line them (both 5 and 6 speed) up and it looked bolt on to me. I will take some pic when it's done. The 5 speed I have is from w202 C180 and it fits perfectly.
I like driving the 36 with manual especially it makes the car feel young again.

springs for your c36

you can get a lot heavier genuine springs from Mercedes, they come with different colour bands. they work out the weight of your car and then match that to the colour coded springs!

some cars were really heavily loaded with extras!

mine is a light weight c36 it only has air con, cruise and leather seats!

i will get the next weight of springs up which is the yellow band, these are fitted to the electric seats model and can take more weight! but there is another two bands above this, so they get thicker and heavier!

makes sense to get the original parts for this car, especially they are not that expensive either! in the uk they are 48 pounds + vat which is around 240 quid for the set of 4 for all original amg spec parts!

each to their own i prefer the auto boxes on these! as fitted to the 500e which takes 346lb/ft of torque (well torque converter is the same). just had mine refurbished, need to adjust the modulator for maxium kick!

yeh and flex discs seem to go quite easily on these standard c36 cars with out putting more power through them. mine is pushing over 300lb/ft of torque at 3500 revs.

our petrol is 99 octane rated! car was originally mapped for 97

but i got an lpg conversion and put more gas through which is rated at 103 octane. (slightly less energy than petrol, so i just up the pressure a bit on the map ) get about 10% more power than standard with an high air flow filter.

car is fast enough for me really!
