16 lbs lighter than in the 350sd???? lol stock piston 'dimentions' wil give 3.4, if you want 3.6 it needs a rebore, even if you stay at 3.4 i would expect uprated pistons (forgies) wouldnt be a bad idea?

In order to be taken seriously, you should spend all your money on paint, (and get a dyno reading). Dont forget to polish it often |

Also, what would be the downfall of not using forged pistons? Costs on getting custom rods made? |

A set of rods is probably going to be in the 1200dollar ballpark. Just remember you've got a 217.625mm deck height to play with, and a 92.4mm stroke. Cast pistons are alright if you're not going to turn it that tight. They're more brittle and are less tolerant of detonation than forgies. Also remember, AMG motors had different intake cams (some say shrick, but I'm not sure I believe that yet), the 3.4 had a ported inlet and exhaust while the 3.6 just had a ported exhaust.

It seems like it could be a fun project, just have to find a good machine shop down here in florida to help me with the block issue. Definitely going to port my exhaust and intake though even before I do the bottom end conversion. |
