engine and gearbox mounts?

the juddering of the engine on pull off has increase to the point i can take no more, i think my engine mounts have scummed to the power increase, and want to swap the gearbox one also, at the same time.

which ones are the stiffest, 300 320 or diesel ones, do they do a sport line mount?

anyone used anything else, i am thinking of trying to make some solid ones from plastic or something?

if your car isnt shiny, you dont know what you are talking about, remember; paint shine = knowledge. In order to be taken seriously, you should spend all your money on paint, (and get a dyno reading).

best bet is some cheap after market mounts for the engine as they come with no oil dampers inside. And maybe try and mount 2 shocks inplace of just the one that u have

Engine and gearbox mounts are the same between W201 and W124?

Have a look at this thread on the 190Rev forum

http://190rev.net/forums/showthread.php?t=35434

There is a guy making a bunch of different bushes and mounts out of Thailand.

Stiffer motor mounts

The factory mounts are pretty good and unless you have excessive movement due to a macho multi HP improvement really should be sufficient if not here are three possible solutions:

1) Get on the 190Rev forum group buy section andbuy a set of Ake's DTM style motor mounts. They are very well made and robust but be careful when specifying the hardness of the Poly-U inserts. We bought a set of his hard insert mounts, they did a great job in steadying the engine but transmitted an unacceptable amount of vibration to the frame and cockpit. Really unacceptable for a street car; OK for a race car. If you do choose to contact Ake ask him for mounts with soft inserts. We have ordered a set of replacement soft inserts from him.

2) Modify a set of old collapsed factory mounts by drilling a hole in the mount body, draining out the remaining damping oil (if any), flushing the resulting cavity with solvent to get out all the residue, then source, mix, and fill the cavity with a reasonable hardness self curing Poly-U liquid. The idea is to replace the damping oil with solid Poly-U.

3) Continue to use the factory mounts (hopefully fresh and not semi-collapsed) and fit an engine steady. We made one using a factory belt tensioner shock absorber running from the front of the top alternator mounting bolt to a riser bracket (shaped like an inverted "T") mounted on the frame rail. There are two nicely sized & placed holes already in the top frame rail. Size & drill the inverted "T" bracket accordingly and attach same to the rail with two ~6" long 8mm bolts running down through the frame rail to two more existing large diameter holes (~1")in the lower frame rail. Bolt the thing up using appropriate sized heavy washers on the large diameter lower rail holes. The resulting engine steady will limit the torque reaction to about 50% of the non-steadied movement with no vibration transmittal to the chassis or cockpit.

Attached are photos of 1) tensioner shock mounted on top alternator bolt, 2) other end of the shock on the inverted "T" riser bracket on the frame rail, and a cut away of a factory motor mount illustrating the cavities to be filled with Poly-U.

Regards,
bobf

If I am not mistaken most w201's and w124's do share suspension components.

If you look at the chart you posted, there are a bunch of 124 part numbers so anyone with a w124 can utilize these poly bushings.

Seem to be pretty fairly priced.

Would be interesting to see if he would do a complete kit at a discounted price instead of piecing it all together.

No chlippo, out of stock for some months afaik. Am confirming though today! I've been speaking with him & all that is available now are 2 sets of front LCA bushes & Rear eccentric LCA bushes in race (90-95) poly harness. I'm after the 80-85 street hardness.

The Bangkok factory is flooded so, no making them for a while.

What we need is member interest so when it reopens for business, a group buy can be done again. Ake is very trustworthy & many member have already used his poly gear with great success.

Nick, I thought you got both the poly engine & trans mounts off him & they were great? Plus, you didn't see need for donuts as the mounts did the job of tightening power train up well?

yeah, what happened was i was sick of the way the engine jumped around, specially in reverse, so was desperate.

when that post came through i immediately thought id strip my mounts off, drill em out and then find some poly resin, then make an engine stay... bla bla bla, quickly realized it would be a right hassel.

so i then thought sod that, and brought the whole kit off ake.

had the steel parts of the engine mounts remade in aircraft grade ally, by a mate, who actually got his boss to order the bar size required just for that job, and it was, apparently, hideously expensive, lol

i am really happy with the quality and fit of the parts, and was gonna become a supplier for him, but we couldnt come up with the right numbers to make it worth my while.

no one should worry about sending him the dosh, he is true to his word, and the parts do exactly what they say on the tin.

Oh man, those mounts you had made would be great!

Yeah Nick, I could only imagine the side lift from the engine torque & what it would mean for the intercooler joins etc with the stock M103 mounts. Don't know why this wasn't thought out before? I've never been a fan of the donut driveline set ups. I know they do smooth out the ride & protect trans bla bla but, direct power anyday over that.

My wife has a Commodore (aka Opel sorta) here with same driveline set up as the Mercs & my commodore daily driver doesn't. Mine is more direct on takeoff I can tell you.

answering this with doubt, but;

dosh = cash, wonga, loot, coin, ect

"on the tin", lol there was an advert on tv years ago for a 'hard wearing woodstain'

the ad had a narrative that said ' hard wearing wood stain, it does exactly what it says on the tin '

the tin was held to the camera, and the label said, wait for it,

hard wearing wood stain.

simples
