exhaust manifold polishing

a while ago i did a 4 into one header. the smaller diameter pipes gave me good low end torque and the 4 into one design made good top end capability too. i took them off this weekend and had a look at the design. here is what i found. the welds were good on the outside but inside there was a step. this was causing a rough idle and power loss from exhaust gas reversion. i also noticed that the exhaust ports were wider than the holes in the manifold

i also changed the bolts from the double screw ended type to the hex bolt type. to make it more accessible in future.

i guess i only gained about 2-3 hp after i tuned in the fuel. it needed a 1/8 turn on the fuel dist after that. but i had fun and it kept me out of mischief on the weekend. hehehe

it was on my 190e 2.0. i have since sold the car. i had an exhaust shop cutom make it up for me.

if you thinking of modding the 280e exhaust, im not sure how much you will gain. the stock exhaust does a fantastic job. im talking about the euro version. the us version could do with a swop to the euro exhaust.

try germanstar.com they have the euro exhaust
