Any interest in built 3.2 M104 blocks in the US?

For those who don't know I use off the shelf pistons and rods from other cars in my 3.2 M104. Just wondering if there was any interest in them from other people? A lot of M104 engines just became available to me so if anyone is curious about it let me know. The pistons and rods combined cost less having custom pistons made and it just so happens the pistons I use have near the same valve reliefs and angle. I'll have another one built here in a few weeks for pictures and such. I build them out of hobby but I started my own performance shop in Indiana and I'd love this to be something I could build for others even if only a couple.

Specs:
Oldsmobile Quad 4 aftermarket forged Piston
Honda H22A Eagle Rods or Stock Rods
Machine stock crank to accept Eagle rods
Guide bushings made for piston
Compression around 7.7:1 to 8.5:1 dependent on if the head is milled on Eagle rods, 9:1 to 9.8:1 on stock rods
Eagle rods are rated safe to 150hp per cylinder or 900hp, the Mercedes rods are similar in power holding.

I'll supply a turbo manifold, GSP turbo, oil lines, hardware and instructions on how to do the rest of the kit to a non-E320 owner for around $1400 or I'll do an entire setup in house at my shop with tuning for $2900 with a 2.5" exhaust(a little more if you need a cat) good for 300whp on the stock motor on any M104 Mercedes. I sell short blocks for right at $2500-2800 with a good block with a good crankshaft.

You can use an innomach shim like I used to. Get a .060" one for around $80. You'll blow the engine with a 125 wet or dry and turbocharging it on stock internals. No nitrous you can push it over 500 with a shim and turbocharged. The downfall is sealing the timing cover is extremely hard due the shim and it wears on the chain tensioner noticeably after 10k miles

That's some interesting info about the stock MB rods, how about the stock piston any info on their limit ?

The stock m104 pistons could probably do over 500hp on e85 but 500whp is the limit on pump gas and a piggyback ecu.

Also in comment on the nitrous, the huge increase in cylinder pressure having a stock internal turbo/nitrous MB engine would either lift the head or blow out the ring lands. Nitrous should only be used to light the turbo then just use boost pressure to get where you want.

Thumbs up

I'm not going to inject anymore nitrous ,I'll stay at 125.Nitrous injection is not like turbo, and supercharging, where a computer controlls gas flow.I hope one day to buy or build a engine to give me 450 rwhp.I'd like to build it where it would last a long time.
My problem I have kids in school their needs come before hp.two more years to go

Hey Max!!

Good to have you back man!
I just about fell out of my chair when I saw your new thread this morning.
I wondered what ever happened to you.
Do you hang out on FB or other sites now?

That's great that you opened your own shop. You may not get rich but I think you will be happy if you follow your passion.

Did you ever develop the split-entry manifold on your car?

Best regards, Greg.

Turbo E320, good info as I'm aiming for 400-450rwhp this season and was starting to wonder if the stock internals could handle it .

Throw all the boost you can at it. See when it will break.

...y'know. For science and stuff.

I would be very careful at those power levels and expect to have problems and be happy if you do not. If there is even the slightest amount of knock the ring lands will crack. The rods are fine and can be polished and shot peened. In my experience with this motor and other Mercedes engines with hypertectic pistons is that they have about a 75hp per cylinder limit for reliability. Yes you can squeeze more out of them but for how long and if you have some knock on them they will break. I have yet to see anyone supply a dyno and or track result with reliability much above that. Timing and ignition resolution become very important and pulling a lot timing from higher iat becomes a must. So even those power levels are in perfect conditions not on a hot day. But engines are cheap so go for whatever you want but be ready.

What I can say for sure is that the stock pistons and rods hold 300-330rwhp without any problems so people aiming for that power should not worry (with the right tune of course). Last season I've put in a lot of miles hard driving at those power levels. Guess for higher power levels we will find out this season, I'm hoping they'll be reliable with 83-84 hp per cylinder, if not then I think it'll be time for forged internals .

on my far from perfect setup on the old TTw124 i did 35000km (22000miles) of very hard driving. keeping in mind my engine had some 215000miles on it when it got boosted. in the end i broke a compression ring (not ring land) on the first piston. car was pushing abt 320-330 crank hp.
