E500 Limited For Sale

Wasn't sure if I should post this ad here or in the "for sale" area, but this seems to be the place where the most E500 discussion occurs, so...

I'm in the unenviable position of having to sell my 94 E500 Limited. I bought it from a friend of mine in Germany when his lease ran out. Judging from the board, most of you already know about this model but for those who don't, the Limited was a group of 500 vehicles sold in Europe to commemorate the end of the series production. They came with 17" Evo II wheels, silver or saphire black paint, black (Vogelaugenahorn) or brown (Wurzelnussholz) wood, and green, red, or blue leather.

My car is saphire black with blue leather and brown wood. The leather looks sort of spray-painted - I can e-mail pictures if you're interested.

The car has 64,000 miles on it and was federalized by Champaign Imports of Lansdale, PA (a registred ICI). The process involved mostly lights and side impact beams, as the vehicle already had the double cats.

A neighbor backed into me at a stopsign about 18 months ago - she forgot her kid's shoes, threw it into reverse and boom. Luckily, she missed the fenders and just hit the hood and bumper. I ended up having it repaired at Sports Leicht Restorations in Pinehurst and it looks magnificent. You can check out their website to get an idea of the quality of repair.

Asking price is $44,000. I can be reached at 919-676-9003 (Raleigh, NC) or via email at rfeiler@nc.rr.com. Why am I selling? Three kids in three years, new house, second mortgage....need I say more? And yes, it's killing me.

Wow, if I did not have a "sizable" loan with MBCC I would try to exchange my 94 E500 for the Limited. But since that is not a financial option, I have been trying to upgrade mine to a reasonable facsimile. You could be of great service however (if you don't mind) by verifying and supplying some details for me.

1. Is there an auxiliary oil cooler on the car? Check in the front righthand corner down low.
2. Is there a transmission cooler (with fan) on the front drivers side? Opposite location from the oil cooler.
3. Now for the hardest one. Several of us have been trying to get the MB part number for the springs. Since the car is suppose to ride lower than ours, this would be a great factory upgrade. Anyway to find the part number out?
4. Can you measure the ride height for us? There are two quick and dirty ways, one is to measure the height of the car off the ground at the middle of the side skirts the other is to measure how high the center of the wheel wells are both front and rear.

We all love pictures here at the mercedesshp, so posting a few will usaully bring some postive responses. A picture of any of my questions would be a great service.

Thanks, and good luck selling this great machine.

Steve

Talking

hehe

I knew someone would ask about the springs.

rrelief, sorry you have to let such a prize go. Your children are more important (sometimes not). Make sure you remind them in the future what you gave up for them so maybe one of them will buy you a low mileage E500 LTD in 2030.

Good luck and tell the lucky new owner about mercedesshop so we can ask them more questions and get more pictures about this rare beauty.

Thanks for your e-mails. I'll try to get some pictures this weekend, weather permitting - some interested parties have asked for some, so I need to do it anyway.

If someone would be so kind as to send me an e-mail (rfeiler@nc.rr.com) explaining how to post them to the board, I would appreciate it. The only directions I saw seemed to refer to posting pictures from a web site, but I could have misunderstood. I've also scanned the (German) brochure for the car and could post that as well, if anyone's interested. How big should I make the files?

And no problem with the part numbers, measurements, etc. I'll crawl around and get as much information as possible.

You know, I never thought I'd be in the position of selling my dream car. My previous car was a 1985 Audi Turbo Quattro Coupe - my fantasy car growing up in CO. I'd vowed never to sell it, but at least I had this one to look forward to. Now it looks like station wagon time. Bottles, diapers, sleep deprivation, illness - those are nothing - this is true sacrifice. At least the members of this board can feel my pain...

rrelief,

Thanks for being so helpful in your moment of pain. You might want to check out some of the "wagon" work that members have done on this board - they have built some incredible machines. Especially Niel (member name ke6dcj). He bolted a C-36 engine into his 1988 300TE and did the corresponding suspension work as well.

360TE AMG completed (PICS!)

There is hope as you enter this new stage of life.

rrelief,

can you post the VIN# or whatever unique MB ID# for your Limited? That would help in finding springs, shocks, eyc.

Or a copy of the "data"/build card for your Limited?

Perhaps you can trade-in your E500 Limited for a 94-95 E320 wagon, then do an engine swap for a C36. . .

:-) neil

The VIN is: WDB1240361C202098.

The distance from the ground to the side skirts at the middle is approx. 17 cm. The height to the middle of the rear wheel wells is about 67 cm; to the middle of the front wheel wells is about 65.5 cm. That's with 245/45-17's (Michelin Pilot Sport) on.

Couldn't tell at first glance about the oil and trans. coolers. I'll ask my mechanic.

By the way, I've been told the asking price may be a little high. I tried to price it fairly but there seems to be a lot of variation in the market. At any rate, I'm certainly open to any reasonable offers.
