ASR: Need Help for DIY Defeat for 1993 400e

I have looked at the post below on the diy asr defeat, but my 400e does not have a asr control module box. Could it be in the ABS Box? Also, thewires that I would need to detach are under the box correct? Thanks.

If you review the thread on the Curcio switch, it will detail what some of us have chosen to do.
There are other options, such as pulling a lead off the wheel sensor....but the switch is a good clean solution to the problem.

The thing is, I don't have an ASR Module. Only an abs module -- is this the same thing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They are very different indeed.
I think all 400E in 92-95 had the ASR feature.

Do you have a snow chain switch above the A/C controls?

If you open the CAN there should be an ASR module along with the LH module the EGAS module. There are pix in the Curcio Switch thread.

My 95 E420 has a snow chain switch but it was part of an optional "winter package".

Im almost positive that the 400e came standard with ASR. And I know that it has some kind of traction control system because it is near impossible to spin the tires unless i launch from 3000 rpm's on slick pavement.

nope. ASR was an option in at least '92. My '92 has no ASR and I can spin the wheels at will. Big fun.

You should have an ASR light in the instrument cluster if it is installed.

Post your VIN# and someone with the MB EPC can run the datacard, and see if your car had the optional ASR on the 400E.

Otherewise, the triangle with an exclamation point (!) on the top/center of the speedo is a good indicator as well as the "Snow-Chain" switch.

... at least with the 124.036 cars

When the iginition switch is turned to the A position (power is sent to the subsystems for heartbeat status), all of the dash 'idiot' lights should be lit for a moment. Now, the 500E/E500 cars have a yellow triangle with an exclamation (!) symbol in the center cluster. Does your 400E have this? This is the Guardian Angel signal when ASR is deployed ... it's active unless one installs a defeat circuit or disables the circuit (many ways to do this ... ).

Your 400E does *NOT* have ASR (code 471). Here are the codes for your 400E:

240 241 280 291 300 340 412 430 441 461 491 524 543 551 588 593 600 611 639 652 664 731 757 803 810

Thank you for your help, but I still do not see why I cannot spin the tires like other people with the same car said they can. Thanks again.

Hold the brake down as hard as you can.

Place the tranny in drive or B2.

Slowly press down on the accelerator pedal, while keeping the brakes down hard.

You'll start smoking the tires . . .
