R129 with W208 blinker mirror upgrade.

I have a set of W208 mirror covers including blinkers and bezzles enroute to me from der Netherlands. From research completed, I understand the only difference in mounting is that the 208 has 4 screws and the 129 has only 3 hold the cover in place.

Several eBay.de sellers of the entire assembled mirrors are saying that the 1999 to 2002 SL R129 vehicle is already pre-wired for the LED directional signals and all one has to do is "plug n play"

My question for any techs out there or others more familiar with this model than I am - Are they pre-wired?

I need to know to see if this is a DIY job or take it to my exhorbitantly priced electronics toy installer to appropriatley connect to directional wiring

I too have purchased a pair of 2002(129) mirrors w/LED blinkers. I was in need of a wiring diagram, as I understand the electrical plugs of the early 129(1990) do NOT match the 2002 mirrors. Correct me if I am wrong on this. I was planning to wire the LED blinkers thru thr door via the existing electrical plastic tubing to the jamb and to the front fender to the front signsl wiring. Do u have any other suggestions or hints from others.
If u have any info. to pass on , I would greatly appreciate in in this DIY project.

Your project will definately be a bit more than mine - your 90 wirrors are the square ones which I assume that you are replacing with a R129 1999-2002 base coupled to a W208 bezel and cover with the LED mounted on it.

You will need to "snake the LED wire (hopefully, it will be long enough for the entire trip) through the tube into the engine compartment and connect to the wiring for each directional(just before they connect, hook up a fuse at that location)

I assume that both of you are talking about an mirror upgrade for the 500 SL model correct..? If so, I have a 1990 and I also am interested in seeing if that is possible to get the newer mirrors with the built-in blinker installed. Also where exactly were you able to purchase them? I have searched for several hours on the internet and although a few places claim to sell mirrors, they do not have any listed for either the 1990 or 2001 model year..? Any help is appreciated.

Go to a bone yard and get the entire mirror assembly from a 2000 to 2002 R129 body. While you are there or inquiring see if they have the entire assembly from a 2001 CLK (W208) If they wont sell it seperately email Wanda at:

However, I am still working with a contact in Miami that states he can get the correct mirror that will fit and hopefully I will be able to upload a part # and picture... As far as the other upgrade I wanted to do (until I found out the price..!) was the Xenon Headlights.. I also found a really good source for that and alot of other hard to find items for SL's..
