Power/light socket in 97 320

Recently I purchased a 1997 320. On the right hand side of the trunk about half the way up the side trim piece there is a small round black socket. I don't know why it's there. Could someone tell me if this is a light bulb socket or power socket or what??? Thanks.

I have one of those in my SL320, If it resembles a cigar lighter socket it is for trickle charger. If you have a garage queen and it sits for weeks, you plug the charger in there. (It is an option) When you go to start your car it is not dead. It can also be used as an accessory plug, I use mine to power a portable cooler when I go on long trips and pack a lunch. Does that sound like it? if not let me know, there is a fuse panel back there too. Good luck!
