85 280sl York Compressor Conversion
I am sick and tired of this York compressor that is on my 85 280 sl. It just pulls way too much power from the engine. I have heard that it can be converted to a Sanden or other "rotary" style compressor. Has anyone here done that? If so, did it make a difference, and what is involved in doing it beside the compressor and adapter bracket?
Thanks. Glenn Swartzfager |

My blue 280SL came with a Sanden installed, so it is obviously possible. It is currently getting a new exhaust. When I get it back, I will compare it to my grey 280SL, which has a York and report on the hoses, which I think would need to be re-done.

Thanks Chuck. I would really appreciate that. Do you notice any difference between the two as far as how much power it draws from the car? Obviously being different cars that might be a little difficult.
