				Strange IR lock problem

Hi all, Interesting forum. Guess just what I need, as I have just bought a 500 SL ’93 without sufficient documentation. Have been searching the web for days and weeks, just to find limited information’s about the way the car has been configured. To me this car has been a dream for years, and there it was and the price seemed very attractive. Just to let you know, that we have 200% car tax plus 25% sales tax in Denmark, so even a 13 year old Mercedes is very expensive. In general the car looks perfect. No rust, no scratches, no signs of age. But I do have a couple of problems, which I can’t seem to figure out. I can see from this forum, that some people have problems with the IR door lock. So have I, but not like the ones described in the forum. Together with the car I got a key where the IR only worked one time, and the you had to manually lock or unlock the doors and trunk. Only if the batteries polarizations was switched around it would work one more time. The I had to change the polarizations again. Seemed like a remote key IR problem, so I bought a new IR key from Mercedes, and it worked 3 times (daylight) and then failed when I got home, at this time it was dark. Another thing I discovered, which I haven’t seeen before. Was a red LED flashing in a blank cover in the second left switch position in the console, where the fanfare switch, according to the manual, should be placed. It flashes when all doors are locked – manually. I also see the LED in the door handle, flashing for almost 10 sec, which the manual describe it will do when one of the doors or trunk is not all closed – but they are… Any idea what is wrong…? Maybe there is something I don’t know yet about the locking mechanism. According to the repairman who installed a immobilizer in the car, there isn’t an alarm in it… so, can anyone tell me what the red flashing light is in the console when the car has been locked. |
