1986 560SL Kelley Blue Book Value
I cut and paste a Kelley pricing report on a 1986 560SL. The site would not allow me to provide the direct link. Retail value is $9,725? When's the last time anybody has seen one in decent condition and 97K miles at this asking price even on EBAY?
If the car gets totaled, and the insurance company pays blue book, how can I insure this car for its true replacement value? It's not a show car or a classic yet, and that insurance is very limited. Any ideas? 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560SL Roadster 2D Engine: V8 5.6 Liter Trans: Automatic Drive: Rear Wheel Drive Mileage: 97,000 Equipment Air Conditioning Power Steering Power Windows Power Door Locks Telescoping Wheel Cruise Control AM/FM Stereo Cassette ABS (4-Wheel) Leather Alloy Wheels Retail Value $9,725 The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value represents the amount an auto dealer might ask for a specific vehicle. The Suggested Retail Value is a starting point for negotiation therefore the actual sale price will vary. Popularity, condition, warranty, color and local market conditions will be factors involved in determining a final price. This retail value is not a trade-in or private party value. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history. The Suggested Retail Value also allows for advertising, sale commissions, insurance and other costs of doing business as a dealer. Most vehicles being offered at this price have passed an inspection and some may carry a warranty.

Kelly Blue book always undervalues cars...go to the NADA site and check there...they are MUCH more reliable and they're what banks use for loan values!

Insurance
Take a photo of the car and submit it to the insurance company and tell them how much you want to insure it for. They'll charge you but they will give you the price if you ever bang it up!
If your ccompany won't do it, contact a classic car company and they will write it!
