Lynn, you seem to be a likeable person that just isn't the type to own a older classic vehicle. I just wonder why you persist with statements like:
Quote:
"You guys, it is so cool. Go drive one today. You will trade in your sl"
I realize you like newer automobiles but statements like this posted in an SL forum aren't making you any friends. I've worked in the automotive industry for 25 years and as far as technology has come in that period, my opinion is that style and class has virtually disappeared, especially in American made cars.

I didnt know it was offensive to state how nice the crosffire is. It is built with Mercedes technology. It doesnt diminish the sl, its just a true statement. Dont be afraid to try it. Again I think this is a forum, not intended for just "praise" but also open to problems and comments. read the board, its full of problem posts. try to loosen up and enjoy new things.

Believe me I have absolutely no problem trying new things, and I'm fully aware of the purpose of a forum. As far as "loosening up", if I get much looser, body parts might start falling off. Commenting about how nice a vehicle is is in no way offensive, just to reply to your sarcastic comment. I'm sure you'll claim that you didn't say it sarcastically, and conveniently I have no way of proving this. This easist thing to do is simply ignore your future posts.

I am truly sorry if you took offense to what I said about the crossfire. Just for the record you can say anything you want about my FX45 and I will just laugh along with you. These are just cars, not people. geez lighten up

Looks like the freaky car from "The League of Extraordinary Gentleman"! I'll take my '94 SL 500 anyday with or without it's problems.

Is that a split front windshield? Very retro.

In the words of the famous Cajun chef Justin Wilson:

"How y'all are?"

I am not from Louisiana but love the culture and people Nawlins. However, the weather in Houston is just about the same as there: hot and humid. Boudreaux is the name of my dog whose full name is Boudreaux Tyson Thibodeaux. Now if that ain't a coon-ass name, I don't know what else would be. Maybe if I added a hyphenated Delacroix to the last name I would get to be an honorary citizen of LA.

I think you should follow Jennifer's post about telling the potential buyer what has been done and what needs to be done. My car didn't have any maintenance history and so far it has cost me over $6K with a direct deposit withdrawal order from my bank to my mechanic!! But I am fortunate to be able to get things repaired as they happen because I would certainly not pay the MSRP price of my car back in 1994 ($99,500). Used MB's are great after the four year depreciation takes effect because you can get a quality car (if maintained well) for a bargain.

Back 3 months ago when you went shopping for a 23 year old Benz, did you take a mechanic with you? Did you try to get service records or owner history report? If you answer no to these questions the blame falls on you.
twenty three years ago alot of 380SL came off the assembly line.
some that are still around today were well maintained by there owners. some were not treated as well. You unfortunately got one that was not taken care of. Also get rid of the thief that is acting as a mechanic and draning your bank account.

Kind Sir, There have been many theives. The car has been to about 5 different locations, all eager to take a minumum of 500.00 per shot. When I originally took it to American Service Center for rough idle, my repair estimate was 13 thousand dollars. They wanted to do a valve and head job and I cant even tell you what all. They said all of the things were required to rule out any possibility of more idle problems. I laughed in the guys face and drove off. I have found no kindness from any strangers where this car is concerned

Oh and just to clarify. I think I mentioned this early in the thread. I did bring the car to be checked out before purchase. Everything was fine except for the middle muffler which I had replaced. The car ran perfectly for about 3 weeks. SO actually I feel like I did do my homework. You can lay blame on me if thats what you feel you need to do. I dont blame anyone or anything. I am guilty of not being aware of the exhorbitant upkeep costs on a car like this, but thats not something I think anyone would have told me. You don't get that info until you own it and are stuck. That, gentlemen was the original impetus of this posting. I truly wish I had known
