if you end up making them out of MDF use wooden dowels instead of screws to get those lets on. The MDF doesn't face up to well with screws, over time they could break off. just a suggestion.

Are you talking about how the legs are attached? If so, I drilled 3/8" deep holes with a forstner bit to accept the 4 wooden dowel legs which are glued in. I would do the same with the MDF.

No way dude. I want these to last.

The only way I think screws would work is if I drove them through the top into the legs, but then they'd cause an imperfection under the veneer that may show through. At least that's what I was imagining when I was planning how to make it.

I know Germans like to tease us Americans about our love of cup holders, but I'll bet you could sell more than a few of these on ebay.de (or ebay.com to international bidders) -- especially if you came up with holders for W124's and other chassis that came without.

Thanks for the orders and inquiries everyone.

I plan to complete the orders for the current cup holder design, then start working on the w123 full console version.

I want to also do some for w124's and w126's, but I need to have access to each chassis to measure, design and fit. All the w123 consoles are the same except for some minor differences in switch placement. Are all w124 consoles the same? Are all w126 consoles the same?

Does anyone have any w124 or w126 consoles I can use for mockup?

iWrock said he had a w124 console he could send to me. I'll have to contact him about it again, but I want to make sure all w124's and all w126's are the same first.

I'm going to start digging into it by this weekend. Hold on and let me figure out how I'm going to execute this so I can come up with a price. I also need to make sure I can get more zebra wood veneer at a decent price if I'm going to be making the larger pieces.

I'm now thinking that I'll make the base piece out of MDF and bond the veneer to that. If I use the wood I did for my cup holder, I'd be worried about it twisting or warping over time on such a long and narrow piece.

I'm going to have to try and find a w124 and a w126 at a junkyard to see what would be involved in making it for them too.
Please make it for the W124...

I can send you the entire center console and trim from one if you need it...

I've got a spare Gen 1 W126 piece I can send if you want it Chad. I think they are all the same, but not positive.

Considering the gripping acceleration of our diesels...

That may be a good request... Can the holders be deeper? (I'll still take one either way)

Chad -- There are at least 2 different types of shifter wood surrounds for w126. Some later year w126s also had a center console with a lockable insert into the middle; so at least 2 different types of center consoles.

I've got a spare w126 2nd generation (?) shifter wood in stock if you need one.

Please let me know if I can help.
