Parting Out 1976 W115 300D
I acquired this car to supply a few parts for another W115 of mine that got hit by a red light runner.
The body is done, but there are still door glass and mechanisms. There are still some under dash items. Wiper assembly. The main thing I need to find a home for is the engine. The 617.910 engine was supposedly a rebuilt installed shortly before the transmission blew years ago. It's been sitting with the hood closed over it. I didn't believe the "rebuilt" story, but then I pulled the valve cover and noticed that the cam hardly looks broke in (still black on the backs of the lobes). The plastic chain guide looks new. It turns over manually just fine. I have not run it. Can't really start it easily since the tranny and starter are gone. The vehicle is located in Albuquerque, NM. Does anyone in the area have a need for this engine, or any of the other stuff that's still there? Feel free to post or send pmail. Thanks! Greg Last edited by gmog220d; 11-19-2013 at 10:00 AM. If the engine is a rebuild it will say Mercedes Tauschaggregat on a metal tag on the motor.

Tag Location?
Where might that metal tag be? I'll dig around and see about getting a pic.
Also, I bought a rebuilt engine from Metric Motors in CA for the '73 (It's been a great engine). I mention this to bring up the possibility that this 5 cyl. engine could have been built by someone other than Benz. |

No Tag
I dug around a little and found that if Benz had rebuilt this engine it would have the tag riveted to the block over the area where the original numbers were stamped. This engine does not have that tag.
I doubt there's an easy way to see what engine serial number this chassis had originally . . . I'll be taking it down to the shop sometime soon so I can yank the engine and strip off whatever anybody wants, assuming someone doesn't want the entire engine. Thanks, Greg |
