It's me again! ('88 420 SEL w/ new Touring Contacts CH95 205 65 15 (92H).

Out of a flash or epiphany, I upped the cold tire pressures to: 40, front and rear, last week.

Result? Overall, car rides much better and less road rumble and noise as well. The only thing I can attribute this to are 2 possibiities:
1. The higher pressures create less flat spots during sitting; and
2. The sidewalls are stiffer and support the weight better.

What's with these Contis? This tire is supposed to be tuned to German cars. It seems to me that the sidewalls on the Touring Contacts are way too soft/flexible for the heavier, older Benzes. I could kill my tire guy: he should have known this problem.

I consider this a temporary remedy. I don't think that I should have to keep pressures this high just to get a normal ride.

Any thoughts?
