Continental ContiExtremeContact Tire Comments

I know this is a new tire, but any feedback yet on the ContiExtremeContact tire? I'm looking at the H rated tire for my '98 E320. I'm familiar with the reviews and comments on Tirerack.com. Thanks.

Dave,
Yesterday was my first day of driving on my new Conti Extreme Contacts. I read all of the reviews and purchased them from the Tire Rack at a great price. I previously purchased Perelli P 6000s and was thinking of replacing them with Michelin A/S Pilots. These just seemed like to good a deal to pass up. I got the V rated tires for my 300 SL. So far, they're really quiet and handled great on dry roads. I'll keep you posted.

Bob

Awesome tires, only had them on for a few days but so far I have nothing but excellent comments on them. The size I'm using is a 205/55/16.

I have driven them quite a few times and though they are pretty impressivve for the cost they do tend to have a higher performance drop off when they styart to wear than several other tires I compared them to ..... (Michelin Pilot SPort A/S) but overall a really good value

BobH - what was your experience like with the P6000s? I am currenlty running P6000 205/16/55 and though I like how they handle and track in the rain, I do find them to be extreemly noisy. I was thinking of replacing my tires with the Conti Extreem Contacts.

Luke - how do the Contis compare to the Yokohama DBs? In the tirerack data shows that the Contis outscored the DBs in both quietness as well as tread wear - what's your experience?

TKD,
I didn't think the P6000s were all that noisy, but the Contis are certainly quieter. I agree, the P6000 is a very good rain tire but not very good on those few occasions when you had to travel in even light snow. I replaced them because I ran over a few to many nails, but at 30,000 miles there was a lot of tread left.

I have to add to the P6000 discussion. Huge grip on dry roads, rode like rocks, not bad in the rain, and perhaps the noisiest tire I've ever had on a car. The only reason they were on my wifes car is because that's what came on it. I was glad when they wore out!! I believe there are much better choices out there for tires than the 6000, unless of course your a devoted Pirelli fan...

Artificial Traction Control

ok guys, I've got to add one more post to this fine thread. Last night in the pouring rain I was stopped at a light, when it turned green the left hand turn was long and sweeping. So about midway through the turn I floored it just to see how grippy my new contacts are..............the car downshifted from 2nd into first and to my disbelief and amazement the tires hooked up without spinning a bit!!!!

Normally a stunt like that would make the inside tire spin uncontrollably until I would let off the gas. On dry pavement that stunt would normally leave 30 ft of rubber!!

What ta heck are these things made of???? Can't be rubber:p

Who needs traction control with tire traction like that, I'm now more impressed with the extremes than ever.........This tire will be a requirement from now on!!

Jetforeman, your comment really makes me want to order a set. I hope they do well in the light to medium snow. My Turanza Revo's are also excellent in the rain, but even in light snow they are miserable.

Living in Atlanta I hope I never find out how they do in snow, but we do occasionally get a little of the white stuff here. If you read some of the comments on tire racks web site there are a few who have stated that it works so well in the snow that they didn't have to change to the Michelin Alpins or snow tires. Man are these things sweet. Last night's rain stunt made me a believer. Now I just don't want to get to cocky with them, I can't be going off road (unintentionally) with my pride and joy.........

I just installed a set of the Yoko Avids on my wifes C230 several months ago. I know what I will be installing on her car when those wear out!!

One bad thing is that sizes seem to be limited. I installed a new set of 16" wheels when I bought the tires so a 205/55/16 was readily available. I don't think they would be an option if I was still running my factory 15" wheels. Good luck and I hope you get a chance to be amazed like I am...........

<< AVS DB series II is quieter than the Conti's ...... >>

I just installed my AVS S2's this week, and they are extremely quiet and smooth -- much more than my former Michelins.

I am still waiting for some heavy rain -- which will be here over the next few days -- to see how they handle in the wet. Dry, the performance is outstanding.

Here's a review of the ContiExtremeContact from European Car magazine:

I was looking at Continental's U.S. web site (http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/us/en/continental/automobile/general/home/index_en.html) and saw they had a ContiPremierContact. Does anyone know how this compares to the ContiExtremeContact?

DaveJ-Thanks for the links. The European Car article reads more like a press release than a critical review.
