8 hole rims don't fit on my SDL?

I just got a set of 8 hole rims for my car, there really nice 16in with 225/55 tires on them. The diamiter's are the same as my stock tires and they bolt right on. But there too wide, the fronts have less than an 1/8in clearance around the tie rods, and the backs come very close to rubbing the wheel well. It seems these rims are 8in wide and not 7.5. So I guess I need spacers, I'm thinking 12-15mm. But here is my question, can I get longer lug bolts that would go threw the spacers? I don't want to go to big on the spacers because the wheels will stick out and look stupid.
H&R has 40mm spacers that will use my stock lugs but I think they will stick out to much. Help! I need to get these rims on next week, the tires on my car now are shot.
