Mmmm, doesn't really sound like this is the problem. The remote unlock feature is kind of a seperate system from DAS, which is what would keep the engine from starting.
At any rate the AAM is both ordered by VIN plus it would require the SDS Mercedes shop computer to program it and to get the keys to work.
