Question Low oil pressure?

Hello,

I have recently purchased a 1983 280GE fully done up with a complete AMG kit imported from Germany. After a long one hour traffic drive I realized that when in drive and stopped at a light my oil light comes on. I can then put it in Neutral and the oil light comes off. The bar reads at approx. 1 and the 1.5 in neutral. Is this normal...my oil was just changed by the dealership and has 10W40. The motor supposedly has 83,000KMS original kilometers. Help or advice much appreciated.

Factory specs for that era are usually quite low at hot idle, say on the order of 0.33 bar, or about 5 PSI. Are you sure that's not the alternator light that is coming on?

Its the oil light all right! Should I be using 20W50 instead of 10W40 in the summer...because when its cool outside, after an hour of stop and go, the light didn't come on until the warm temperature outside.

I experienced the same thing yesterday after changing my oil, I made the switch to Delo 400 from Delvac Super, both are 15W-40 oils.

At idle, my oil pressure light would come on, but with a slight blip of throttle, it would go off. I noticed that after a long hard drive in 49c weather. I am going to change the oil pressure switch to see if this goes away.

I have a Trax Gurkha which has the OM 616 turbo engine.
