00 ML 430 burns too much oil

Hello,

My 00 ML 430 burns like a quart every 600 miles. I just had my oil changed in between my services. MB says this is normal on these cars. Is that true?

Did your ML begin life on synthetic oil? 1998-99 factory spec'd dyno juice along with FSS long-change intervals which led to engine problems. MBUSA lost a class-action suit over it and changed new car specs to synth oil. There is a rebate/recall program as a result of the lawsuit.

His car is 2000 Not part of the affected cars.

personally I need to drop 1 can in every 3-4000 miles. Seems pretty normal to eat oil but every 600 seems high.

I'm not sure if MBUSA made the change by model year or manufacturing date....worth checking if you have the records.

Our 99 ML320 uses about 1 litre between changes....the dealer also says this is normal for "heavy duty" use, ie, winter driving and highway driving.

Regular Gas causes oil consumption.

Mine used a quart every 700 miles when I bought it used.
The origional owner told me it did it from when it was new.
He also told me it burned regular gas.
I used the recommended premium and changed the oil. (Mobil one 15-40)
Now I go 6000 miles , add a quart then change it at 7500.
The use was cuased by the computer adjusted the timing to use regular and caused oil blow by.

Not true. I received the letter from MB WRT my 00 ML. Contact a dealer, MBUSA or one of their field service reps to get a copy of the letter.
