I was thinking of the small fan in the e-box, since you had that replaced I was wondering if it would be related. Did the prob start after that was replaced (and just why would an e box have to be replaced anywho?).
Kinda rare, but not unheard of, for the windshield itself to cause it, actually caused by the edge of the windshield seal to rub the body. About all that comes to mind now. If you think it's in the dash I'd get the mcs pulled and then have someone try to find it while it's being driven, been there, done that. i don't recall if there is a way to check for the windshield, it was always the "last resort" sorta thing and by the time you did resort to that, everything else had been tried and the windshield repl would fix it. No warranty? Tailgate dump trucks and pick up a stone chip, let insurance buy it.

Sorry..Gilly..that's what l meant..the fan in the e-box....and no that fan was switched out about a year ago....this sound has been around for about a month now....l will remove the MCS and see what happens..it can't hurt....The sound is definitely coming from the dash area........

"Definitely coming from the dash" is JUST what the complaints were where we did "the last resort squeak fix". FYI. Not saying that's what it needs, but you sure would swear that noise is inside the dash somewhere.

Uh, you don't wanna hear this, but if we wanted to try the windshield, um, to put it bluntly the first thing you do is order a new windshield.......sorry.

If you can get it out in one piece, call the Vatican first, then yeah just call a glass company to come out and glue it back in, the thought is it won't be in the same spot and won't squeak. If you checkk out the glass, along the border there is a plastic "surround" for lack of a better name, sort of like a "frame". It has spacer blocks molded to the frame and the theory is that one of these "blocks" isn't quite the right dimension (maybe too large?) and rubs on the windshield opening, I assume on the bottom center. Which makes me think it might be a good thing the glass breaks so it isn't reused.
I think the type of sealer you're thinking of it "butyl", but don't worry about that. You might want to ask a local dealer who they use to replace MB windshields as they should be familiar with the correct type of sealer to use. We used AGS (Auto Glass Specialists) who are in many areas of the country, they seemed to know there stuff BUT had the brains to ask for tech info if they weren't sure of something (such as the material to use or how to get a molding off or a wiper arm out of the way, or remove an interior mirror or rain sensor, things like that). THAT'S smarter than just assuming and being wrong!

Not sure, never heard of that one. Probably refers to the box that contains the heater core and evaporator, that's more behind the glove box. It's the box the climate control filter slips in to. I'd assume they mean the seal between this box and the firewall.

If you can't find it, it might be the body itself. There may have been a TSB on this, might want to ask the dealer or I can ask at the one near me..
