New MB Battery for $109....

I thought I heard it wrong when I called the dealer.
After 7 years of trusty service, I decided to replace my old MB battery with another one. I have been monitoring the voltage and it certainly dips below 12V last week during the frigid days. To avoid getting stranded in the Chicago winter, I called my local MB dealer for a quote, and the voice from the other end says one "O" nine plus tax. I quickly chowed down my lunch and went to get one, $117 out the door. What a deal....

the aftermarket batteries don't fit the 163's very well. $109 is about right for a battery. The new MB batteries are over $200.00

I dont think so, MB roaside assistance will come out replace with a genuine MB battery, and typically charge less than $150. I did hear about a dealer in NY charge $223. The roadside is free, only charge is for the battery, of course dealers have been bandits and overcharge retail customers.

The normal MB battery is $109...that is a decent price. I meant the new gel type batteries are over $200.00
My shop stocks Interstate Batteries, but I seem to find myself ordering the genuine batteries from MB and BMW because they are an exact fit.

The only battery the dealer offer me was the lead-acid kind, I could wait for Roadside to change it but then who knows when you need it. Image when you are in a hurry and the battery gave up on you. I can do it at the comfort of my own home whenever I want.

It just prooves my point, the prices are all over. My dealer previously charged labor when you brought in the car for battery, they are now offering the same deal as roadside. The service manager told me they now use "junior" technicians for tasks such as balancing, and oil change to get competitive.

MB Batteries are warrantied for only one year. While with others you get 3 years free replacement and 7/8 Years total warranty!! You choose.

I don't think that's true, unless they changed policies it was more than that, more like 4 yrs. The first year it is 100%, after that I think it's 75%, etc, so a prorated warranty, but I think that's pretty standard. There is a special battery warranty sheet you should get when you buy an MB battery, the service truck guys probably don't get them, but the parts dept should have them.

$109 plus tax

I bought a MB battery because: 1. My orig. battery lasted 7 years, also, with a lot of short trips and 2. I was worried about the fit. However, the new MB battery was made in Spain, not Germany and doesn't fit perfectly. Oh well, wish me luck!

I did not realize that MB would do the battery as part of the "lifetime roadside assistance" and only charge for the battery. I had my battery go kaput while out of town on New Years Eve. I found that only AutoZone had a battery listed, so I got it (24-DL IIRC) for $69 and had them help me change it since they offer that service for free. The battery was pretty much an exact fit - we'll see if it lasts. The original battery lasted 8 years (98 ML320 w/ 127K on the clock).
