Price for an ML500$

Hey guys I've been looking at some Ml500's brand new 2007 to buy and I just wanted your input on how much I should pay out the door. There is one at MB manhatten for 63,xxx with package 3 keyless go, parktronic etc. I was thinking I can atleast take 10 percent off that price what do you guys think. Also, do you think cash would be able to take more off vs. finance?

Talk him down thinking your going to finance. When you get him to the lowest price offer cash. I bought a new Tahoe this way (in 2002) and got it for about 4000 less then the MSRP. The manager was a little peeved.

Any particular reason why you need to get the ML500 versus the ML350 (towing, heavy hauling, etc.)? A steep price hike for the additional cylinders in the wake of climbing fuel costs, IMHO.

I checked www.MBUSA.com for their option package costs, and the "gee-whiz" options that include the parktronic and keyless go are a pretty penny!

Consider that $63K would get you in a moderately equipped GL450.

I mention all of this since I just got my '07 ML350 a week ago for about $15K less than that out the door...with decent options as well. Premium sound package, navigation and satellite radio, as well as the appearance and sport packages.

Yea i need the extra torque for towing a boat. I was thinking i can atleast talk the guy down 10 percent of msrp out the door. I just hate haggeling because the dealer makes it seem like they are not making any money. I look at it this way though if 3 hours of haggling takes off approx. 6300 dollars then it was well worth it.

If you tow a lot, and want the torque, get the diesel. Very close in price to the 500, GOBS more torque, and 20% better fuel economy (on fuel that is cheaper than premium these days) to boot. The only downside is the availibility of the diesels is tighter than gasoline models.

Agreed. I've gone to several dealerships, and if you find even ONE, it's a rare find.

This particular dealership did have one, but it was sparsely equipped, with the least desireable color/interior combo available.

EPA fuel consumption estimates on the sticker weren't dramatically lower than the gassers...maybe a 2 mpg improvement (over the V6)...not enough to warrant a closer look...does the high sulphur content in domestic diesel fuel have anything to do with that?

Yes, they are hard to find. But, I am not sure what you mean about the MPG ratings. Even the EPA ratings show a 30% better use of fuel for the diesel v. an ML500 (combined mileage is 20 MPG on the CDI, and only 14 on the ML500). Using 1/3 less fuel is a BIG improvement in my mind, especially when the vehicle makes way more usable torque than the 500--plus, right now in the Chicagoland area, premium (which an ML500 would require) is $3.75 a gallon; while the ULSD (ultra low sulphur diesel) is going for around $3.00 a gallon. If I had the means, a 320 CDI would be in my garage.

My mpg comparison was for the ML350 (see my last post). Since I was specifically shopping for the V-6 equipped ML350, I was recanting my shopping experience, not Jugo Driver#1s'...

...granted, in his case, there would be significant fuel savings when you compare the CDI against the 500...

I see that, but the difference in mileage between the cdi and the ML 350 is still around 20% (21 MPG combined on the dielsel compared to 17 on the 350 (which also requires premium like the 500). 4 MPG times the 80 cents a gallon price difference could be a HUGE savings, plus with the diesel you are getting so much more power, and a powerplant that will last twice as long.

The diesel isn't sold in NY state anyways. NY and several other northeastern states adopted California emissions a few years ago. No diesels there.

Several years ago MB adopted a strategy to sell vehicles at sticker price. The spread between what the dealer pays and the sticker is actually quite small. Looking at edmunds.com the invoice on the ML is ~$59K. There's also a $3K incentive and 1.9% financing on the car right now (at least in my zip code - yours may vary).

Last year I bought a new MB (for a relative...) which had a $5K incentive. Some dealers planned to pocket the full $5K and would not budge off full sticker. Others offered about $6K off.

I doubt you'll get 10% off. If you manage 6,7, or 8% it would seem to be a good offer.

My $.02,

- JimY

I think 10% is a pretty typical amount off. When I was looking for an ML500 early this year, they were very hard to find. I ended up with a GL450, and I'm very happy I switched. The extra room is great. I ended up leasing, & got a lot more vehicle for about the same $$ as a loaded ML500 would have cost.

I'm surprised the salseman I worked with was open to deal...I noticed the manufacture date on mine shows 05/2007...I took possession at the end of May...the paint was barely dry!
