Reliability of 2005 ML500?
I'm considering picking up an '05 ML500 Special Edition with about 32k miles on it. I understand that the first couple of years of the W163 ('98-'99) had some serious issues with reliability, recalls, interior quality, etc., but that those were gradually improved over the years. 2005 was the last model year of the W163, and presumably it was as good as it was going to get by then. Is it still a concern, or was the platform relatively reliable by then?

That model is as good as a W163 chassis could ever be!

When MB designed the W163 back in 1995!! They were shooting at Ford Explorer as far as pricing goes. WHEN you start that low, it is hard to raise expectations.
The made many changes & all made the truck better. You can't get a better designed OFF-ROAD SUV unless you get a G-wagon OR Range Rover. The newer W164 platform is MUCH better suited to the real USA world of SUV's
