Interesting...the whole kit went for $180! Is the foglamp you looked up, the smaller black projector type?

I'll post a pic of the units I currently have...

I believe this is the large Hella foglamps on this sheet. If memory serves correctly, the ones you have are PIAA "Ion" driving lights. I don't see them on this list, although I just photocopied one page, and the foglight section ends on the bottom, so the PIAA's may be on the next page .
I think I was thinking of a different thread where a whole used brush guard was being purchased, and I thought the big round Hellas were already installed on it, there was a picture of it in one of the original posts.

Replacement kit came in this weekend, and re-installation went smoothly. All is well, with no blown fuses.

Interesting quality issue though...my first kit came incorrectly with two right hand side brackets...the replacement kit came with two left hand side brackets!!! What a joke!!! Fortunately, I just used one from each kit and shipped everything else back.

The projector lamps are definitely HELLA.

Pics to follow...

The fogs that are currently listed (Hah! Found second page!):
Hella fog light kit style I (this is the large flat faced one)
PIAA ION fog light kit style I
PIAA 510 ION fog lamp kit style II
The ION style that I remember (probably style I) where kind of ball-shaped with a small projector lense. I am unsure of what a 510 is. If you have Hella and has a projector lense I would be interested in you posting the picture. Are you dealing with MB on the part? If so, can you post the P/N along with the pics?

I guess I should have been more specific...I did not purchase kit from MB. I bought the Hella set from www.************************. It was advertised on the catalog as an ML foglight kit.

The kit was nice enough to be an OEM set, as the black powdercoated brackets had the exact mounting points needed to properly locate the lights in the front dam air slots. The wiring harness was the correct length, and the connections were factory. The only tip off to looking non-OEM was the black plastic convoluted harness covering versus OEM harness insulation.

As I said before, I preferred a more subtle foglight setup than the large lamps that mount on the brush guard...

I'd say that the black convoluted covering is pretty much what the OEM looks like anyways.

Lightbulb "Foglight" activation

Got it!! I activated the lights myself. All you have to do is install a pair of 55 Watt H3 bulbs and the lights are working. Amazing!! No need to goto the dealer. easy ...

These won't activate by themselves. Someone previously had to go into the AAM electronically and activate them. I don't know what the history is on your truck or what year it is, so it's hard to speculate how this happened.
Other owners wanting to try this can cetainly hope for your luck, worst case scenario is that they'll install the bulbs and they won't work and need to get them activated at the dealer.

Hi Gilly,

Do you think 55W is the max bulbs you would go with? Or would it be possible to run a higher wattage bulb? Thanks.

Bill:
Sure, it's "possible" to run a higher wattage bulb. How much larger are you contemplating? I would still be afraid of going much higher. I've seen AAM's ruined by running 2 sets of fogs (integral plus brush guard mounted). If you could find something in the 60 to 65 watt range, probably can handle that OK. I'm not sure what wattages are available for these bulbs, H1 or H2 aren't they?
It's never been much of an issue with me. If a guy were running off-road at night alot or something I could see the advantage, but for "normal" driving, I just don't have that hard of a time seeing where I'm going.

Fog light Question

I spoke with my dealer in Greensboro, NC and they said there would be no problem, however they said that labor would be about 50 bucks and the bulbs were about 50 bucks as well. Now I have bought a lot of standard lightbulbs in my life and have never paid 50 dollars for one. What is so costly about these bulbs? Also, are these aux/fog bulbs yellow in color like is scene on many older MBs and Lexus? Also, some people have spoken about getting the service for free, any advice on what I could say to try to get the price lower? Thanks

Foglights should not cost that much. The only reason why is because you bought them from your dealer. MB is a damn rip off and my ML is a piece of junk. Parts are falling off left and right. Barely a year old and feels like a 10 year old car. My 1994 Civic has never had that many problems.

As for the foglights, I just took my friends H3 bulbs from this Toyota 4Runner foglights. They work perfectly. If not, just buy them at your local auto shop. Never buy parts from MB unless you have to. Goodluck.
