60K service
Can anybody give me a list of what is recommended / needed with an idea of pricefor a 98 ML320 60K service? Got a feeling this might be a pricey one. Not clear how the A/B service accounts for 60k.
Thanks HD |

No such thing as a 60K service on a FSS vehicle per se. At 60K, the fuel and air filters are due for replacement. This is a reference mileage. What a technician will want to do is pick out the A or B that is closest to 60K and replace the air and fuel filters at that time. Also make sure that attention is being paid to the age related services; the brake fluid is supposed to be flushed/replaced every 2 years and the coolant every 3 years. Happy Moteren Gilly

thanks for the info. I have a leak in the trans pan... anything special with that? I go to an independent.

Yup, lots special with that. First, I would suspect the leak isn't the pan itself, but the electronic coupler, above the right front corner of the pan. it's how the control module connects to the "guts" of the transmission for reading temp, shaft speeds, etc, and controlling valves. Usually the whole coupler is replaced, it's cheap and comes with the new seal rings. Also the o rings on the connector should be changed. Haven't seen a pan gasket fail yet on one of these. Second special with that is the trans fluid. There is only 1 fluid allowed in these, it comes in gray quart bottles and has a 3 pointed star on it and is quite expensive. Gotta come from the dealer, make sure your independent knows this. Third, the independent may be surprised when he gets the dipstick tube cap off and there is no dipstick. The dipstick is a shop tool that he'll need to check the level. And make sure he gets a new lock for the tube cap, otherwise the cap isn't held on very well by itself, the lock is cheap. Fourth, there is a procedure which should be followed for topping up the transmission fluid level. Not saying it's "THAT" critical, but how it's supposed to be done is to monitor the trans fluid temp and make sure the level is in the "80C" range on the special tool dipstick when the trans oil temp is at 80 degreec celcius, per actual value screen on the monitor (star diagnosis system computer). The independent may have a computer that is compatible enough with the truck to read out this value, I'm not sure if that info is available on aftermarket scanners or not. Gilly
