Talking SCORE: My new Daimler Benz O 309 D motor-home/work vehicle

I am grinning so hard it hurts..

O 309D 1971 Mercedes bus that has been converted to a motor-home, then shipped over to the states from Germany.
Clean title in hand.
67,000 miles.
Runs great.
Has factory roof top central heating and air.
A couple of pictures are attached.

Very cool. I really like the full windows around the bed. Was it a bus at one time? Which engine does it have. It's essentially a 508d isn't it?

Ooops, I see it's a 613d.

You'll probably be getting familiar with www.eurocarparts.co.uk. EuroTech in the NW also has the parts microfiche but I found eurocarparts quicker and cheaper.

Great find !! You will be able to be our moderator remotely now !! Maybe some sort of overdrive is needed, 92km/hr max is going to be a bit slow, cruse at about 45 mph max.
It looks like it has a solid motor, a true low revving diesel.

62 MPH is the current top speed, a slow moving vehicle sign might be a good idea on the expressway.

It is has a governor limiting it..

I will be cutting a deal with my friends at Superior Turbo to alter/tweak the injection pump governor to get 65 - 70 MPH as possible.

If this is your first........welcome to the diesel motorcoach world, Roy.

If you have any questions relating to the coach part of your new unit, I'll be glad to send you in the right direction. PM me.

I've owned a diesel motorcoach since I was 35 yr. old. I'm pushing 60, so there's not much I haven't seen, heard or had to try to solve on my units.

I generally run 60 to 65 mph over-the-road, even though my unit will do much more - how much more, I don't know. 80 mph wouldn't be difficult though.

Sounds like a smart move Roy!
What sort of revs at top speed? I didnt take much notice of the stroke of the motor. Some of those have such long strokes that you have to limit the max revs to keep the piston speed down to a reasonable level. No point in having it screaming its heart out !
Those slow revving diesel motors normally run on just about anything you choose to put in the tank. The pistons are that strong & slow at the top of the stroke, the fuel has sufficient time to burn properly.

I think taller tires or an overdrive are smarter moves than increasing fueling to the motor to get higher revs... maybe an axle regear?

Recreational vehicles are for leisure... A leisurely pace will be what you experience so perhaps this will be a new recreational opportunity. Where are the davits for the Smart car life boat?

Roy... if things get slow you could always convert it to haul passengers. See the attached link: http://cgi.ebay.com/1972-Mercedes-Benz-0-309-D-Bus-Original-Ad-/120452189938?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c0b828ef2

I've already seen the pics of that one somewhere. Where was it sold from?
Very very nice, and perfect for you. I hope it makes an appearance in Mt. Vernon TX later this year......
