Turning off the MCS display

Newbie to the forum. I'm curious to see if I can turn off the MCS display with radio on while driving. I find it the display distracting during night-time driving even with the brightness turned all the way down. Any suggestions ?

As far as a normal type of command for the display, no there isn't a way to dim it or shut it off further. I am curious though if there may be something that could be done with the version coding in the MCS. I'll try to make a point to find out on one. I'm with you, that display at night can be really irritating.

I saw a picture of a ML interior w/ the E-class nav. unit. Does the E-class nav. unit have a "DISP OFF" button ?

I'm glad you posted again so I didn't have to track down that thread.
I got a chance to bring in a used ML, a 2000 ML320. There was nothing in version coding to allow the brightness to be adjusted. i'm sure you're aware of the bright/dim setting already built in to the unit via the normal adjustments? It's in the owners manual.
The nav of couse can be added to the MCS unit quite easily, in case you didn't know it.
I believe the "pod" type nav system, as offered in 1998/1999, can of course be turned off, but I'm not sure if you can cancel only the display only. We may have an instruction book around the shop someplace for the pod unit, I'll try to look for it.
