'02 ML320 squeak near gear shift lever

Hello Guys! Just joined this list after having heard another member's good comments about it.

A strange squeak emits from the gear shift lever housing atop the console when accelerating. Usually, a quick slap will prolong the noise until I stop and then accelerate again. Deceleration will also end this noise. ML320 with 5000 km (3000 miles)on the odometer. Anyone else with this problem and has dealer resolved it?

I had that same annoying problem. Took it into the dealer and the SA said he recognized it and would resolve it.

Later, he tells me they couldn't replicate the noise and so they couldn't fix it?!?! I hate these monopoly dealerships.

Anyway, what I did was I got a can of silicone lubricant and sprayed it with the fine tip along the edges of the gear shift. Voila, no noise.

If you don't like the lubricant, try armor-all as I would think that would give you the same type of result.
