Wife wants a ML but...future gas prices scare me!
I heard gas prices may get to $3 a gallon.
I read in the files that most people are getting around 20 mpg. Is that a fair gas mileage for a ML 320/350? When is the new "revised" ML coming out? Constructive opinions please! TIA

I believe that the revised ML comes out in 2005. I was getting 23 MPG in our ML but don't know what our new 2002 gets yet since we just picked it up Saturday. Love the car though and highly recommend it!!

expensive..
expect to fill your gas once a week, gas prices here in vancouver is 89.9, the highest I ever seen in my lifetime.. probably due to the war that is coming.. i spend around $200 canadian dollars on gas per month.. but gas is cheap, maintenace is what kills you.. ie:
air mass sensor $600 (DIY) oil change $80 (DIY) brakes $650 (DIY) sparkplugs $120 (DIY) etc.. expect to change your brakes and rotors frequently! prices are all estimates |

I also assume the prices are all Canadian, and the gas prices are per liter, not gallon.
How often he would fill his tank, and the amount he spends on fuel each month, would be directly linked to the amount of miles he drives as well . Gilly

My usual daily driver, my 300E is undergoing some repairs, so I have had to drive the ML to work for the last couple of weeks (I'm a slooowww DIY'er).
I do a 45-mi round trip to work, mixed city/frontage road driving (the highways are too clogged to be any real benefit MPG-wise), and I am filling up about every 4-5 days (using Texaco 93 octane at about $1.90/gal). There are mixed reactions concerning maintenance issues. Some have had extensive repairs...I haven't had much go wrong with mine (bought new in 98), and I started doing some work myself (yeah they do want $600+ to do brakes). Since I have other vehicles, I prefer rolling up the miles on the 300E, but the ML has been a comfortable substitute these past weeks. If you are concerned about gas prices, I would opt for the 320. But I would suspect the 350 is only slightly more expensive to drive/maintain.

my ML does better mileage then the 300E
Sparks, rotors too are a once in a lifetime change, brakes perhaps twice. Service are about $200 to 300 (A & B) every 10K miles so it is not that bad, plus you get a loaner in the mean time.
AMF is not maintenance but repair, and sh$$t can happens on any car. I get over 18.5 mpg in 100% city driving, (highway is over 22) which I don't consider excesive, like say 10mpg for the stupid Laforza I had.

320 ML mileage
15mpg in town; 23mpg on the open road; uses no oil (which surprises me, from what other people say); and my wife loves the ML. The V-8's burn a lot more gas, I am told.

Not Bad
I've got a 98 ML (knock on wood) it's reliable and the bugs have been worked out. Mileage around town is between 19 and 21 mpg.
Highway driving is fractionally better. If you're decideing to get another 6cyl truck then you're splitting hairs. I believe the mileage on the 6cyl MLs is pretty good for it's class. If you're concerned about paying more for gas, and want a truck, maybe you should consider getting a Japanese 4cyl truck instead. It won't break down, and you'll get good milage. Just a suggestion. |

If it was for me I would get an A class (if they were available in US)
I saw one in France but, my wife wants an ML. I guess is that Mercedes name thing...
Thanks for the info. I will keep it in mind...
