corrosion on rims
Has anyone seen or heard of corrosion on ML rims. I am awaiting my new ML 350(my first MB) and have had a few people mention their rims are corroded or loosing their finish. Wondering if this is common or due to running them through a car wash. I have a Lexus currently and I know one of the local car washes has replaced a few sets of rims because their formula they use to clean rims is so caustic. I am getting the Inspiration package so it will have the ML 500 rims on it. Any help or advice is appreciated. I can't wait to start adding goodies!!!!!!
TIA, Patrick

We saw that on the first run of 98 ml's built in 97 and 98.
The paint oxidized and had a lousy finish. After about vin # 20,000 they have all seemed to be ok. The wheel bolts will still rust from time to time but the paint on the rims has lasted well. At least here in the NW, where we don't salt our roads. |

We've had very few problems with the rim finish on ML's at our dealership, where we have lots and lots of salt. Our 03 ML320 service truck does have a big section of finish coming off, but there is a chip in the middle of the bad area.
The silver painted wheel bolts we've replaced alot of though. MB will let us put the black painted ones on. Gilly

caustic
Patrick,
No problems with my 98 wheels but I only use automated carwashes in the winter months., sparingly at that. Which carwash is killing wheels? Perhaps a company with multiple Indianapolis locations and maintaines regular radio marketing campaigns? FR |
