Exclamation Tire Wear 98 ML 320

In June of 2003 I had a rear differential replaced. At that time I had 83,000 miles on the car. Since then the rear tires are worn excessivly after only 2000 miles. I went to my local Mercedes dealer and the dealer thinks it's the alignment .I dont think this is true because prior to the differential being replaced I never had a problem with the alignment of the car what so ever. Could an improperly installed differential cause that problem of the wearing of the tires? Also the car had the tires replaced at 63,600 miles and the tires were good until 81,000 miles and within 2000 miles the rear tires are completely bald. I have a 98' ML320. Please help if you have any tips or suggestions.

If the rear diff were installed incorrectly, I doubt you would be driving at all. They are a very simple swap in and swap out
installation that has no bearing on alignment angles.
All that gets disconnected are the 3 driveshafts and a ventline.

How the tires worn? Bald in the middle, shoulders, inside ?
What brand were they? Dunlop, General?

I have replaced multiple sets of tires on ML's before 20k miles.
It all depends on your usage, load, tire brand, inflation pressures, climate temps, rotations ect ect.

Reminds me of one of my favorite technician funnies. The old guy complains to the service writer that every since you changed my oil the light in the barn don't work.

If the tires are wearing out to quickly the alignment is wrong when the car is on the road. If it isn't when being measured something is moving more than it should under loading.
