My brother sent me that link! Whadda buncha whiners, those folks who think books are harmful. OMG! People who read might learn something dangerous!

By golly, I hope so.

Hope no one figures out their advisors have been exposed. Might be bad for contributions.

I've read 1,2,3,6,9

I read the Communist Manifesto when I was in the Army during WWIII , a general spotted it during a inspection and questioned why I had it. I told him it was to better understand my enemy. He then asked what statments scared me the most, I replied "Let the ruling classes tremble at a Communistic revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. WORKING MEN OF ALL COUNTRIES, UNITE!"

I was promoted to be his driver that day.

Those should be on the Must Read list.....Communism and socialism are as dangerous as Islam...........

THose two book are some of the things the ACLU and its sister organization Amnisty International fear the most becasue it exposes their true motivations.

Dangerous book list:
1. Bible
2. Koran
3. Anarchist's Cookbook

Leaving these, especially the first two, off the list, is really just blatant ignorance of reality.

Some boob thought that Mill's 'On Liberty' was dangerous? Did he read it first? I'm sure Mill's 'Essays on Sex Equality' would have also made that jackass' list.

Also, I thought that the brief descriptions of each book were hillarious. How about the blindly written one on Das Kapital:
Marx died after publishing a first volume of this massive book, after which his benefactor Engels edited and published two additional volumes that Marx had drafted. Das Kapital forces the round peg of capitalism into the square hole of Marx’s materialistic theory of history, portraying capitalism as an ugly phase in the development of human society in which capitalists inevitably and amorally exploit labor by paying the cheapest possible wages to earn the greatest possible profits. Marx theorized that the inevitable eventual outcome would be global proletarian revolution. He could not have predicted 21st Century America: a free, affluent society based on capitalism and representative government that people the world over envy and seek to emulate.

A satiric writer, who was it...Andre Gide perhaps, wrote a novel about censorship. These fat, pale middleaged office drones were assigned the task of reading all books and deciding which ones were to be consigned to the flames.

The funny part I believe occurred when they would read racy, erotic novels.

They would retire to the men's room for a circle-jerk.

Their souls and bodies purified by mutual masturbation they would cast these books into the fire.

Guns are not a problem, people are....Besides the person who argues a Legal US non-felon citizen doesn't need a gun doesn't really need the right to speak their mind either....The First amendment is no more important than the second amendment.

That is what I was thinking.... In fact Alan Watts wrote an article called " The world's most dangerous book' referring to the Bible..... It was published in Playboy at some point... see !! I really do read the articles there...

Can't believe ( as a Sociology Major ) that the Mead , Carson, or Darwin books would be on that list...

" The Greening of America " book.. is interesting because it was assigned reading in 1972 in a college history class I took... I hated that book.... thought they guy was just saying things to be on the bandwagon and sell the book... but I was a highschool dropout and short haired Veteran at the time... just lately I tried finding a copy to reread it... to see if what he said had been true and come true... I suspect it has....

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but it really does seem as if the Right Wingers have gone off the deep end when it comes to public debate and dissent. I also think the media is completely intimidated by the right. The other day there was talk of Tom Delay filing a "complaint" about the Law & Order TV show making a joke at his expense. For those that missed the reports on it, the episode apparently had a couple judges get killed. Someone on the show said something about how they should be looking for someone with a Tom Delay tee shirt.

I was flabbergasted that Delay thought that there was something illegal about the Law & Order show. And it didn't make matters any better when the NBC rep said that there was nothing "political" about the show. Of course it was political. Good grief. Is there some prohibition on network TV shows making political statements? I shouldn't have been surprised by Delay's ant-American reaction to being criticized, but I was disappointed by the network's weak response.

But back to the point, how many times now has the Bush administration warned people that they have to be careful what they say? Now, apparently, we are supposed to be careful about what we read. The whole thing gives me the willies.

And neither amendment is absolute. Both have always given way to public safety concerns.
