This one is for Hattie:

Their: I'm going over to their house
There: I'm going there.
They're: They're coming over here.

These three are probably the toughest of any to master.

Using their instead of there and vice versa.

Seems the younger crowd who grew up with word processors capable of spelling and grammar checks are lost without them.

Didn't notice this went to a second page until I posted, oh well. I too abhorred English classes, but finally learned English grammar while learning Spanish.

Howdy All,
Irregardless. I don't know how it is spelled since there is no such word.

...Sir Billiam Gates Jr used that particular word the other day in an NPR interview about school reform--coffee came out my nose.

"I could care less."

Well then, why did you bother mentioning it?

I've been known to spew beer at times like that. Our locals around here are not known to be the sharpest knives in the drawer. Pneumonia always comes out ammonia. The worst case of bastardizing the English lanquage was when two locals were comparing notes after a tornado. One guy said, "The wind was so strong it blew my TV Montana off the roof and into the Hi-Lex bushes" Hi-Lex was his word for Lilac. I'm not kidding either. It really happened not far from where I live.

Ford's

As in "He works at Ford's" instead of "He works at Ford."

Substitute any company name...

Oh, yeah, forgot "Nucular Power Plant" instead of "Nuclear Power Plant" (usually spoken this way)

THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one who cringed at that.

Another peeve is with the girl at the local McD's. She says "Can I help who's next?" after taking each order. "Who's Next." Isn't that the name of an album?

If I were you.
The correct verb is "was". It may sound strange if you say, "If I was you" but on the other hand you don't say, "I were going to the store" either.
