I used to watch th eItalian equivalent to the Blue angels...

the Tricolore as the airport they practiced was 1/4 mile from the base I was at during the first Gulf war...

If you ever saw them take a twin engine turboprop paratroop transport from 50 feet to an immediate vertical climb and do a hammerhead stall to a verticle dive and pull out 50 feet from the ground over and over its simply amazing...

I only say this becasue I have only once seen the blue angels live.

Ive seen the Tricolore as recently as last July in Italy perform.

re: practicing elsewhere... you can't practice low-level aerial maneuvers intended for one specific locale in another locale. Do you have ANY idea what those guys are doing as they practice? They literally stopwatch each pass and identify landmarks so they know when/where to bank, climb, etc...

Before you assume they're just out joyriding, have a look at what preparing one of these shows entails.

I'm well aware of the skill set, but terrorizing the city in the name of entertainment is another classic example of military intelligence.

I would guess that a vocal 2% does not like the Blue Angels.

I don’t have anything against them, except for the noise, pointless flagrant display, and the complete throw away of tax dollars. But, gosh, if some think its a recruitment tool, or gives a hard on to folks who worship tools of murder, that must make it okay.

I didn't know that the Blue Angels had weapons, but I guess they could fly it into something.

This might be a challenge for you, and I'm sorry if it is, but the jets used by the Blue Angels are the F/A 18, and those are made for the purpose of….

Here’s a hint

The "Tank 330" can't be all that lethal if it were filled with deionized water. I guess if you dropped 330 gallons of deionized water on something from 18,000ft that's a different story

If you show me a modern Blue Angel aircraft with weapons on board I'll eat crow, the Blue Angels are NOT armed.

I would hope they are not so arrogantly stupid to carry weapons for the shows, but that doesn’t change the fact that that’s the express and sole purpose for which the F/A-18 is built. In addition, the BA shows are all about combat and bombing maneuvers. Lastly the BA jets are combat ready in 72 hours or less. So rather than conceding the point, try and split a hair or change the subject.

But that aside, your comment below is on the mark.
