We report, you decide

I found it hysterical that even Bill O'rlelly, Karl Rove's personal mouthpiece over at Fox News and the man who is in charge of desseminating The Party's Official Explanation to the righties and fundies, lashed into George Bush, the man who is alleged to be the President of The United States. O'reilly is either pushing what Rove has decided to be the official explantion, that Bush is a weak, indecisive, fumbling idiot, (and we should all forgive him because, hey, aren't all of us weak indecisive fumbling idiots at times? ) or O'Reilly is actually giving his own opinion for once. Myself, I think George, alleged President of the US and in-fact-President of Iraq, acted deliberately by his inaction, in an attempt to push his "faith based" horse manure. So I was thinking, what the heck, let's honor Fox News with a Fair and Balanced poll on the subject.

It was the fault of the liberals...and the Environazis...

And the Democrats who can't accept responsibility for their decades of bumbling ineptitude culminating in this.

Republican presidents are not responsible for Hurricanes and idiots who refuse to follow manditory evacuation orders.

I was saddened to see that Rank Incompetence was not one of the options. I suppose that could be filed under "bumbling fool". I heard O'riellly's "Radio Factor" last night, and, after expecting the usual excuse making for this error-prone Misadministration, was really quite surprised at his vitriolic treatment of Bush's underlings. He repeatedly called Bush "weak", and "not a strong leader", a "reactor, not a proactor", but he stopped short of the magic "I" word - Incompetent. Perhaps the right is preparing to throw Bush to the wolves. I think the man is a disaster.

It was all Al Gores fault.

The missing option is one that does not assign any personal blame to Bush. The response of the Federal government to the disaster is precisely what the right wing of the Republican party wants. They are hard core limited government/corporate property Republicans who believe the only social good is acheived via capitalist corporations and no public good, apart from defense, is ever acheived by government. By convincing voters to cut taxes, they are able to cut federal programs with the excuse 'There's just not enough money', without directly opening to public debate the question of whether or not we want our goverment to enhance public goods.
According to this political ideology, a US government without FEMA is a better US government. So the fact that billions are being spent on the military in Iraq, while FEMA is being economically starved inthe US is not a problem but a realization of their ideal world.

I get the feeling the old saw "live in today" has little value to you, Mr. Boneheaddoctor.

In July, 2005, Hurricane Dennis, a catagory 4, hit Cuba. They evacuated 660,000 people and suffered only ten casualties
