Hey nabeel! thanks for the advice, I think I will probably stay at home since transys dorms are 7k per year. I hope to see you online soon, I'd like to talk to ya. THanks.

My parents weren't strict after I graduated high school (not that there wasn't an "adjustment stage"). I stayed at home for the first year after high school and went to community college and it wasn't bad. I went off to school a year later to St. Mary's (pop. about 11K students) and stayed in these dorms that were the size of closets, literally. I didn't make any friends in my dorms, yes I "knew" a lot of them, but they're not in my life now and I don't miss them. I visited the other dorms where some people I was "acquainted" with lived and though they were bigger, life in them sucked equally if not more. I think it really depends on what type of person you are. I HATED dorm life and wanted to move back home really badly after spending a year in them. I did just that. I went home and got my 2 year degree. My parents could care less what I did (outside of it being illegal) as long as my grades were good. They were, I worked really hard, had two jobs and it was great. I came here to San Antonio again to finish 4 year degree. I lived in Campus apartments for a year and I HATED them too! I guess I just hate the "college experience". That's not to say I hate the college life, I just have no desire to live with a bunch of morons who party all the time.

I now live off campus in a complex with less than a 10% college student population, I have plenty of friends, all I met on campus, and I did it all without dorm life...so I'm gonna buck the trend in this thread and say screw dorm life. As long as your parents are cool and not too strict, stay at home and take the Benz. I wouldn't have been given mine if I hadn't stayed home for 2 years to get my 2 year degree. I think it was more than worth it. I especially disagree with the statement from earlier in this thread about you can't put a dollar amount on dorm experience. That's B.S.

Go for the car

I say go for the car. Two years from now when you have earned your BS (or BA) you will have known just as many girls and had just as much fun as if you were staying in the expensive dorm, but will have the nice MB as a bonus. Want proof? Watch "Animal House" one more time.

I commute and don't think I am missing much. I know a few people with dorms and have plenty of access to girls, drinks, and parties. I am not a big party guy though. I will save myself about $20kish by not living on campus. But I probably will the last year or so. The public dorms are real holes in my school. Nothing like having to walk down the hall to a public bathroom at 2am to take a pee and find puke all over the place. Or if you want to study and their are half naked girls sucking beers down next door.
Hmm
A) study math
B) Party with hot drunk girls

hmm tough decision.

I enjoy coming into school for my classes, then I can either hang out or go home and study in my nice quite room. Also I need to keep working I need money. My commute is about 20min each way so not a big chunk out of my day. I crank up the music and use it to unwind.

In my case, it was the dorm. Girls at that age don't know much about Benz, all they know is that they are expensive and they probably don't care.

I got laid all the time when I was in school, and I did not even own a car.

FWIW, $15K seems like a lot of money to put on a car at your age. Buying an older one will give you more opportunity to find out how cars work cuzzin' you'll get hands on experience fixing it. Sort of a sweat equity in a vehicle.

Round here, you can buy 123 and 126 diesels for $2 to $4 K all day long. Find a place that sells bio-diesel, and you'll have a leg up in conversation with cute babes who admire your actually taking action on the petroleum thing.

I met people I never could have imagined in the dorm I stayed in at WSU, aka "Cow Tech," the state ag. school, in eastern Wash., right next to Idaho. Really broadened my life.

Another thing, a $15K Benz is nothing to sneeze at but your fellow students might think you're a bit of an elitist, you never know, with a car better than 98% of 'em. I mean screw 'em on some level, but no need to alienate potential friends either. You can always buy the newer, better Benz, plenty of time for that.

I agree completely. The elitist bit depends on the school. Here you find 911 turbos, CLK 500s, etc. parked on the street right next to Civics. I am one of 3 C36 AMGs so far . I would look at a compromise. Get a group of guys together and rent a house in the middle of other student housing. Then take the extra cash and combine with the W126s he has.

Jeez, I'm inattentive. I didn't see that Erfaniman already has a older Benz diesel. Whoops.

Anyway -- biodiesel -- dorms. That's my last offer, uhhhh, except for:

If you're looking for a babe magnet, there's avenues that are way more successful than having the latest and best car. You probably already know this, forgive me if I'm talking down to you, but....

Exercise, diet, nutrition and more exercise. The babe bod will trump the hot car 9 times out of ten, and the tenth one was a ***** anyway. Of course charm is an intangible. Charm + a nice car can trump a great bod + hillbilly knuckleheadedness, but the bod will always help.

That works but may I sudjest a CLK for max flash factor?

What is flashy is all relative. Their are not many MB's on my campus but their are a few. An SL55 AMG for example and an M5.
