So, I stopped at the dollar store last week and, lo and behold, there are quartz "sport" watches for sale at $1.00 each.

I bought three of them. Best $3.00 investment I ever made.

Sure beats working on the M/B in a Rolex.
I'd feel sorry for the MB getting scratched up by the Rolex's crystal face, ceramic bezel, and stainless steel housing and band.

I did the cheap watch thing for a while, every couple of years buy a new one.
I finally decided to have an old Bulova mechanical watch (my old boss gave me in the late 80's) cleaned up, works like a charm. If I understand my local watch repairman it was made in 1964.
JiveTurkey, it has an Accutron stem, so it's kind of a frankenstein.
The down side is parts are no longer being produced.
I do have a cheap one too tho.

After having a pretty noticeable watch tan from wearing a watch everyday, I decided to stop wearing watches.

Have yet to look back. My phone does an excellent job of keeping time, and I feel less cluttered.

A friend of mine had me order a watch for him off of one fo the high end knock off sites... (he doesn't have a CC).
I"ll keep track of it, and possibly pass the info on if the watch seems to be good. It's a knock off Brettling...

I've now been converted to "no watch".

The phone keeps perfect time.

Feel naked without a watch on.. plus I hate pulling out my cell phone every time I want to see the time.. much easier to just glance at your wrist.

Yeah, a friend does the same thing. He also collects watches, go figure.
I'll agree with Ara.T, doesn't take two human hands to see what time it is.
And I have a watch band tan in summer, a sandal tan too.

My modest collection consists of the following:
1940s Gruen VeriThin tank on a leather strap
1950s Gruen Precision tank on a leather strap
1950s Tissot bump-drive automatic on a cheesy Speidel expanding bracelet
1982-85 Heuer quartz Professional Diver on a leather strap
modern Wenger quartz Swiss Military watch on a leather strap

Always on the lookout for cool hand-wound or automatic watches...I like the timexone site and forum for "windowshopping"

I wear a watch about once a year (since the cars all have working clocks, there are clocks at work, and I am staring at Microsoft time on my computer all day). The only time I need one seems to be when I travel, so I would be buying batteries everytime I needed it.

My wife is native Ukrainian, so I bought a Russian mechanical Polyot and a Kommanderska at the Odessa bazaar 3 years ago when we were there. I think I paid about $5 total, but as with most of my toys, I am set for life...

Rick
