The first car I drove was a 1986 Dodge Caravan. The first car I owned (and own) was a 1981 Mercedes-Benz 300SD. There have been about six cars between those two.

The next car I will own (tomorrow) will be a 1991 MB 300D 2.5 Turbo.

The first car I owned was a 1983 Mazda 323 Sports Coupe, with a sunroof that was working. Brought it to Adelaide on its maiden drive - just so to try the stretch without any speed limits.

Then, I've had 3 Proton Aerobacks ranging from 1.6 (crashed one, wrecked the other) to a 1.8 cc, all modified to burn rubbers, before I landed with a W202 C200, and then to the present W126 300SE.

First I owned was a 1966 Mercury Park Lane 2 door fastback with a 428. It had an auto tranny, but interestingly the gear selector was laid out similar to the 3 speed column shift I learned how to drive on - P R N 2 D L. Ate a lot of tires on that car, mostly the rear .

Split my learning time between a 55 Chevy (3 on the tree) and a 53 International pick-up (floor shift). As I recall, the Chevy was almost as unstoppable in a field as the International was.

1983 GMC Jimmy K-5 305 engine

Was a fun truck to drive as a teen. Fit 14 people in that truck one day, and drove all over the place.

Ever spend $700 a month on gas? hehe in that truck I did.

Medium Blue '66 Chevelle, inline 6, automatic, with light blue interior. The seats were so slippery, you were forced to wear the seat belt to hold you in when turning corners!

The first car that I ever purchased and owned (at 19)was a 1967 427 Cobra. Holman & Moody 427 LeMans short block with medium riser heads. It had the SC style wide body but no roll bar or side pipes. The car now resides in the Cobra Museum in Bolder, CO. That is the good side of the story. The sad part is that the car I took a pass on was a 1964 Ferrari GTO that had been owned by Pedro Rodriguez. It sold for $7,800 in 1972. (It did need some work however)

My first car was a '79 Honda Civic hatchback. It was specially designed to deliver pizza at breakneck speed while balancing a lighted Domino's sign on its head. It ran me $795 in 1989. I think it had something like 99k miles on it when I got it, and I put another 50k on it in a year. During this time I added a new clutch, new brakes, new battery, new altenator, new tires, and a quart of oil every 4-5 days.

1972 Superbeetle, and I sure remember replacing those belts every 1000 miles. I drove it from AL to CA..and back, what a ride.

Mine was a 1959 VW bug with 1200cc motor. I bought it stock and put a big tires (almost sand) on the rear and a cool sound system. I sure remember adjusting the valves and changing the oil on that baby every 2000-2500 miles! I met a great old guy named Lester (English mechanic) who had a shop in the hood. He let me watch him work on my car and his other customers'. I really cut my teeth in that shop and learned the beauty of the sound of a well tuned engine. As Lester used to say, Italian cars sound the best....

In 1983, my first car was a 1971 Porsche 914, in Kermit the Frog Green! I had a lot of fun with that car, so much that in 1993 I bought a 1974 914 2.0 that I drove daily until about 6 months ago!
