When I met Jim, he mentioned to me that he lived in a "gated community." I had no idea this is what he meant, though!

He's going to take photos with the SLR he gets for his class.

Dee8go 08-22-2008 11:49 AM

What? with FILM, you mean?

Attended first Friday Chapel with my five year old for the school year this morning and she got a birthday blessing left over from last week. I am going to take them to a pizza place tonight where they have little stools for the kids to watch the dough throwers. Going to take them dink sailing tomorrow if this storm doesn't prevent.

What is "dink" sailing, JD?

100 sheets of photopaper for $66.. I think I'll stick with digital. The Spotmatic hasn't shown up yet.

The SLR will make you a better photographer....you have to think about what your photographing not just pointing and shooting.

It's all that silver, Joe. Making a fine B&W print is worlds apart from churning out inkjet prints. If you've never worked in a darkroom before, you make get hooked on it.

There is no inkjet print that can rival a well made B&W silver print.

Dinghy, small craft. I have a 420 that I have been taking "bigger" out in this summer.

I'll be damned, check it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/420_(dinghy)

I was in a darkroom this morning, looking at a picture of my perfectly spaced vertebrae (whew) and don't think I want to go back into one anytime soon.

Agreed on the B&W silver prints--had the girls shot last year and will again next year using that medium. Will do paint when little bit gets to be 5ish.

The only thing better is a good platinum print or maybe a carbon print.

Don't they do something with mercury as well? I touched some stuff in a friends darkroom one time and they wanted me to get checked for blood poisoning.

Dee8go 08-22-2008 12:45 PM

I believe you are referring to tintypes or Daguerotypes. They use Mercury fumes to develop the image. Very dangerous!
