As far as I know this was the first time a vehicle entered the front yard. I hadn't considered any liability issues with the metal posts, I was only thinking of making the front yard safer for my kids. Once the row of hedges I planted takes off, they will provide some stopping power. I guess I'll leave it at that.

OK ... here are some pics:

Right after the accident

I have to trim 6" off the posts and put caps on them that match my mailbox post. I'm going to let the western red cedar age to grey.

Nice work, Chad.

It amazes me to think that one could get into trouble for protecting one's own children/property from nuts who can't keep their cars on the frickin' road!

The kids are at school.
The wife has no mid-day lessons on the books.

So, I’m thinking today will involve a pretty lady, a picnic basket, and (of course) an airplane.

Today will look something like this:

I'm hoping to have a good-looking pilot to fly ME around one of these days!

Nothing is safe from contingency personal injury lawyers.

Maybe a nice row of Jersey barriers behind the fence...

Great job, Chad.

I love a natural woood fence.

Sorry to hear about the circumstances that made it necessary though.

Thanks Dee8go.

I agree, thankfully, the girl that had the accident didn't get hurt. She came VERY close to hitting the oak tree. I wonder if they could've sued me if she hit the tree. I wouldn't think so ... but it seems like anything is possible when an injury is involved.

Thanks WVOtoGO.

I was considering leaving the posts 60" and adding a section of lattice at the top. I don't think anyone would complain if I were to add it after the fence was inspected. It would only add 12" to the fence height it's only a screen. Either that or I could string some cables between the posts and train some ivy or other vine to grow on it.

Well the winds we’ve been plagued with have finally died down a bit. So we’re all about taking advantage of that. Looks like clear skies for the next few days as well.

Sorry to hear you’re still in the soup up there, Mistress. The anticipation would be killing me. Keep us posted !!

Dee8go – I’m not that good looking.
(If she were the pilot there, the ground would more than likely be at the top of the photo.)

Both those ideas sound cool to me.

I like the ivy idea. Keep it trimmed nice as not to make things look top heavy, and that would be quite nice. Let us know how ya go !!

LOL Thanks, I'm pretty happy with the grass this year. I cut down 3 huge pine trees a few years ago and cleaned up LOADS of needles. You can still see the spots where the trees were a little, but I am finally getting a front lawn.
