SnowStormArmegeddon - Q

Sounds like another ST-TNG episode...without John de Lancie mucking up the forecast. Or improving it either...

Salt trucks out making Salt-Slushies for the cars...no plows actually down and moving snow/slush off the roadways...maybe the county/city figured that the snowplows' MGP would improve by not pushing a heavy piece of metal on the pavement all day. Boobermint...go figure.

Anyways...answering the phone all day about "...why isn't your Fox Station on Dish/DishNet..." and relishing in the fact that I got a firewall to do what it's suppose to do with minimal information from all parties concerned...another story, another day.

I'm heading out for a juicy, 1" thick steak with a deep-fried onion as a garnish, along with a baked potato (butter and bacon, no chives) and some garlic bread. Haven't decided if I'm going to go for a glass of wine with that or not...

Decisions...decisions...life's a b!tch, then you die.

Go Daytona!!

Wow, it's been awhile since the old TGIF thread made an appearance. Prolly been that long since we've had some casual, sometimes witty, often mindless rapport about the upcoming week end's activities.

DD is done with AAU hoops, track season ended for Son #1 (team won the state class championship without winning a single event (lots of 2nds, 3rds, 4ths and 5ths, often in the same event) so our weekends have opened up considerably. Just baseball for S#2 and soccer for S#3, usually just a couple hours for one day out of the weekend.

This is Saturday's project. 5 yards of mulch to spread anywhere and everywhere there isn't grass, a good chunk around the playscape.

Sunday afternoon is DD's end-of-basketball season party so I'll probably get some more long-neglected yard/house work done before lunch. I've got to pick away at the Honey-Do list since I'm off to Itasca, IL from Tue-Thu next week for a supplier meeting. There's always some crisis that occurs when I travel (last month was a kid's trip to the ER, prior it was a major gas leak down the street, previous was an electrical issue) so I've got to clear up as many potential problems as I can.

Besides work tomorrow until noon, I've got a free schedule. Although the honey-do list is quite extensive.

The only must-do is that I've got to mow the lawn/hay field after 10 days of not being able to due to extensive rainfall and lack of time. I'll probably play around in the flower beds, transplant some stuff and pick up a new filter pump for our "Wallyworld Special" above ground pool. It would figure since I planned on retiring it after this season. The pool is over 7 years old (this will make it the third filter) and covered with patches so we've extracted the most value from it.

After that it will be beers and bonfires. The kids last day of school is Monday so it's time to prepare for them being home for the summer...

Have a great weekend Swamp!

Tomorrow I go to the Lansdale Beer Tasting Festival with VIP tickets for early admission and food pairings.

I've been looking forward to this since I bought the tickets a few months ago which was before I knew I needed to get cut open.

It turns out that a bad cough I had with a cold about 3 months ago started a tear in my groin. It's pretty bad now and I go in for surgery this Tuesday morning. Laparoscopic bilateral inguinal hernia repair. Woo Hoo! Yup both sides! I never do anything halfway.

Should be only one week of bed rest then I can start walking around. No P90X for at least 6 weeks.

I should be all better in time for my GTG this August 24th! What a relief.

Doesn't sound pleasant, hope you can enjoy yourself! Like I always say; if you're going to be a bear, be a grizzly.

Good luck with the surgery! Must be something in the air, one of the guys at work needs surgery. Had some plumbing work done as a result of diverticulitis a little over a month ago and now this.

Never one to pass an opportunity to tell my story

Had a hernia of my own ~ 2 years ago. Named him Bob. Ignored him for several months. Progressed from an occasional annoyance to a frequent pain. Made an appointment with Doc Tyra (our awesome family doc).

Told her why I was there, and she says "let's have a look."

So I stand up, drop my shorts, and she exclaims (honest to dog truth):

OH MY GAWD THAT'S HUGE!!!

She was pretty much free to arrange what ever cutting was necessary at that point

I had surgery for an inguinal hernia a little over a year ago.

I'm going to give you some advice that I hope you take.

You will still be numbed up down there when you wake up after surgery. You will feel a mild, dull pain.

They sent me home with hydrocodone, but I decided to wait to see how the pain was before I took the meds.

That was a mistake. The pain was so intense that I was hitting my maximum pain tolerance level. I started taking the max dose of two pills every 4 hours, but it took a long time for the pain pills to catch up with the pain.

The first two days were extremely uncomfortable, but then it got better every day, until the constipation set in. The pain pills stop your system up. It happens to everyone. Start taking fiber like Metamucil before the surgery, and take it everyday following the surgery. With the incision and the stitches, it's almost impossible to push when you are trying to eliminate. You want to keep things loose.

By all means, don't try and be a cowboy like me and try and test your pain tolerance. Take the max dose of the pain pills immediately, and don't let up for 2-3 days.

PM me for more advice if you want more info.

I didn't see this post until just now, and I wish I saw it earlier.

First of all, right out of surgery the biggest incision next to my navel was BAD. I had a pain pump for the first 48 hours which I ended up pulling out early since it was just draining into my leg and making that numb instead of the area it was supposed to numb.

I was given 20 hydrocodones with no refill, so I used them as sparingly as I could. After they were gone it was ibuprofen or nothing, so I went with nothing. The gas pockets from the lap. surgery were the worst to deal with. Stabbing pains that creep up in the mid section when you least expect it. That lasted much longer than I was expecting. I'm still healing up and starting to walk normally. Driving is no longer an issue.

The surgery and healing wasn't that bad though compared to everything else that happened immediately following my surgery.

My wife dropped me off and was going to pick me up when the Dr. called her after he was done fixing me up.

I waited in the recovery room for 3.5 hours knowing she was only 20 minutes away. I was finally told that she and my kids were in an accident.

After I got home, thanks to my parents, and after she was done with the questioning at the police station, I found out what happened.

She was on her way to pick me up when a young woman ran into the road. My wife swerved to avoid her, but she ran right into the passenger side front fender of our TD. That threw her to the ground causing a brain injury. My wife and kids are ok and the girl is stable at this point, but it's taken a few weeks for my wife and kids to come to terms with what they saw. They have no car or car insurance and our insurance won't cover the extent of their bills so we're waiting to see if they'll try to sue. The police and 3 eye witnesses support that the accident couldn't have been avoided since the girl just darted out from the side of the road with no warning. Skid marks show my wife did her best to stop and avoid hitting her, and she wasn't speeding.

It's a bit of a nightmare and I'm sure the girl's family thinks so too.

On top of that, the day after my surgery, I got a call telling me that my brother had a serious accident at work.

He was working on a HUGE battery cabinet, landed a connection incorrectly, and a large arc flash gave him first degree burns on his face along with second and third degree burns on his hands and arms. He looked like a mummy when I finally saw him 3 days later. He spent the past 2 weeks at our house healing up enough to be able to use his hands again. He's driving again, but still can't go back to work. He'll have to stay out of direct sunlight for at least the next year while applying sunscreen every two hours if he's outdoors or his skin will have the pigment bleached out.

At any rate, things seem to be calming down now. I'm really looking forward to August 24th and putting all this stuff out of my mind.

Holy crap, Chad! I don't know how I missed this. Hope all is ok or getting better!

My whining about the heat is very insignificant now.

I was going to take my youngest two boys to the New Britain Rock Cats game tonight with fireworks afterwards (Joe Mauer bobblehead night, too!). My 10yoS w/Down syndrome doesn't really sweat so I'm thinking with temps in the upper 90's and humid that we'll probably skip it. Plan B we were going to spend the evening in the pool but he just got back from the Dr. w/a bad case of swimmer's ear so that's out. I guess Plan C will be sitting inside in front of the AC and watching a movie. Not a bad last resort.

Tomorrow we've got the CT Down Syndrome Congress' Annual Picnic at Camp Harkness on Long Island Sound. Usually a great day of food, family-friendly beverages, friends (new & old) and either a live Reggae or Calypso band. HOWEVER, tomorrow is when the cold front is supposed to come through, mid-day. Bringing us from the upper 90's to the lower 80's. Usually that involves a big bang! I'm hoping they'll be off on the forecast by a few hours. It'd be sad if they had to cancel.

Sunday is the family party/cookout for my now 7yoS's birthday and my DD's 8th grade "graduation." After spending a week+ in Maine, there is a crap load of weeding and mowing to do that morning (been too dang hot all week and won't get much done Saturday).

Hope you all have a great weekend!

End of the fiscal year craziness, which is trying to do inventory during one of our busiest times of the year.

I'll do a bit of relaxing tonight with the Mrs. and youngest two, the oldest two are at their respective sporting events which are both away (otherwise we'd be at one or both).

THEN, I get to spend tomorrow playing with a non-functioning $h!t pump! I know you're all envious. Getting up at 5 and heading up to the camp with my father to close it up for the winter. Of course my brother has plans he can't get out of. Draining pipes, blowing antifreeze through them, putting up shutters, pulling out the well pump. But first, we've got to tack the most unenviable of all tasks.

The black and grey water drain into an enclosed tank which has a pump that sends the water about 50 yards to the septic tank. The pump keeps shorting out the circuit...SOOOO...it must come out and, I would imagine, be replaced. I'm not sure it's something that you want to get into and repair.

So, just remember, no matter how unpleasant your weekend plans may be (assuming it's not a health-related issue), it could be worse.

Hope your weekend is better than mine!

^ Man, sounds like a *****ty weekend! Good luck Swamp! I'm celebrating 8 years with the lady friend tomorrow by going out into the city to play video games, coming back and making a dinner that has yet to be decided. I think we've got some Oktoberfest stuff going on around these parts as well. Backup plan is a tailgate and football game, always a reminder about how busy (even if its leisure stuff) this time if year is.

Also, this weekend I'm driving a 2013 328i, while my local dealer gets to repair what the other dealer broke when trying to replace a windshield prior to my ownership.
