This is my dream desk...at least for what I do at home.

Pedestal desks like those on ebay are pimp. I've got one, inherited it along with a law office with many pieces dating back to the civil war. Mine is very simple and american looking, but you can work from both sides and it offers lots of space. I put a glass top on it because the top had some water damage from when it was in storage. Here's the only decentpic I have of it, along with some of the barrister bookshelves that go with it. This was my old office. I like the modern stuff, too, and most of my home furnishings are very clean and minimal. For an office though, especially a law office, I do like antiques.

It reminds me of my own set up when I was in private practice.

Now that I am a prosecutor, my desk is the counsel table in whatever courtroom I happen to be in.

since we're posting pics of desks:

mine! sorry about the mess..just got one of the towers back from california (warranty repair work)

my desk as it sits..it was much more cluttered before I shipped the motherboard of the one pc back...then i decided to "simplify" its not nearly as pimp as the previously pictured desks but it workes for me. most of the desk portion was free (desk was my mom's from school before they renovated it, the white table was mine from a few years ago where my 20" Sony wore dents into it..)

meh, its functional.

The Merrill Lynch people are slobs then. The Bank of America traders were much cleaner but they also had smaller desks which had their massive sound mixing board sized 12,678 line phone systems.

I never heard of the museum until now, do you frequently go the events?

Nice set up though.

Having a computer on a companion desk defeats the purpose of having a companion desk. I have my great uncle's companion desk (he had no kids). He was VA's attorney for the ICC in the 20's & 30's. He later drafted most of the paperwork for the St. Lawrence seaway at the desk. It was at the Cosmos Club in DC from his death in '83 or so until I picked it up three years ago. Have no idea what it is worth, but I wouldn't take anything for it. I also have his Gundlach chair which new would cost as much as a Honda Civic

The computers/fax and all that are to the right and out of the photo! I tried to get appointed as prosecutor in a little county and got the committees recommendation, but the Gov didn't like my politics so they sent me packing! Ah well, politics. Don't want to start up my own practice again because it means working like a dog so I've been collecting rejection letters for a few months.

In our county the DA has to hire from the the "list." Politics have been taken out of the process (thank God!).

Having your practice has its ups and downs. I enjoy what I do and I don't have to worry about the business coming in through the door. On the other hand, I do have to answer to more "clients."

I was just thinking about a chair, is this chair more comfortable than a Honda?

The Planes of Fame Museum is a very long haul for me and we have another museum (the Confederate Air Force--it has nothing to do with the "Confederancy") that is closer and has many events. It is based at the Camarillo Airport.

The Chino museum is literally set among cow and goat pastures.

Their planes are in really good condition...just too many for the space they have.

Are you into vintage, WWII planes?

My son is, that boy can cite facts and figures about WWII planes that even some of the old timers don't know. The kid is amazing...yet when you ask him why he didn't take the trash out he'll look at you and say "I forgot!"

I inherited the desk and chair, and a hand picked portion of his law library (the majority of it is at UVA Law Library)--I would never spend that kind of money on a desk (I have it insured @$30K). I had a $200 Office Depot chair before and thought it was heaven--until I sat in the 60 year old Gundlach. I did some research on them and it is the chair that is behind the Big Desk in the Oval office, starting with Kennedy. Hammlacher Schlemmer has them for $12K (again, I would never make such a purchase).

I got really lucky outfitting my office in addition to my desk (excepting equipment and conference room furniture, ect...)--I have a good friend that is a fairly well-known regional artist, and I have about 15 of his large oil paintings hanging in my office (with his name and prices below), but all I had to do was put a $200/year $75K insurance rider on my contents policy and he swaps them out every so often. I have even sold a few for him

Ernesto, I am familiar with WWII planes but I am not an expert. I could probably ID most military planes down to role, country, and age of manufacture. I used to have most every ship and military vehicle in Jane's memorized down to the BHP/SHP and engine manufacturer. I would love to have a P-38 however!
