Laptops seem to be hit and miss, Toshibas, HPs and Compaqs all have their problems, and so do Apples. If you have the money, those service contracts can be worth it. They're just so much more prone to failure due to minimal airflow and how tightly everything is put together. You could have sent your Toshiba in under warranty as long as it wasn't OVER a year old. Is that what you ended up doing? Stores like BestBuy and CompUSA handle it and you don't get charged a dime. Or you could just spend the ~70 bucks and slap a new hard drive in there. HD failure is an extremely cheap fix in the world of laptops. It's the fried motherboards and ****ed up LCDs that can really screw you.
