The first vid was an Antarctic expedition in 4 wheelers. They run 2psi in the tires and its easy to roll them off the rim.

My tire guy at Discount Tire told me they used ether all the time on stiff walled tires in winter since the air hose could not provide enough air fast enough to seat the bead. He mumbled something about the good old days and missing eyebrows.

Can someone tell me how this works? The fire creates a vacuum... outside the rim and draws air into the tire?

The ignition cause the gases to expand, forcing the tire against the rim as they try to escape.

Thanks for the info. I used this technique to set the bead on a 16" truck tire today. It took a couple of attempts to get the fire inside the tire. But once I did, it sat the bead nicely.

The egg vacuum thing can be seen with the tire. if you don't add additional air after the initial explosion the tire will collapses and remove its self from the bead in a few seconds. we did "experiments" with this in high school auto shop. Mounting 35" tires on a Toyota.

FYI don't tell high school auto shop kids about this unless you wanna use up all the schools ether and throw the rest of the days lesson plan in the trash.

I miss auto shop

I didn't add air for about a minute and it didn't collapse.

Hey wait and it burns up all the O2 in there so you have basically a nitrogen filled tire.
