The trouble with doing the right thing....
This Tuesday I get home from work and on my stoop is a box. The box is from Sprint and it is some equipment. The address is acurate but the name on the box is wrong. I do not belong with Sprint/Nextel so obviously this was a wrong delivery.
After dinner I call Sprint to explain the problem and to try to do the right thing and return this merchandise...well that's where the fun begins. After being on hold for 30 minutes I am connected to a CSR that cannot help me and in turn transfers me to a manager only AFTER she pitches me a Sprint cell plan. It is now 45 mins into this to find out the "correct" department was closed and get this...can I call again in the morning....? The box sits, At this point I am ready to chuck it into the lake behind my home but I say ok let me try again. Last evening, Friday , I call again..this time 20minutes and I get another CSR that insisted on me seeing if she could help...I am hearing twilight zone music in my head..I snap and go hog wild and hold my stance and finally get a manager to cut through the chase. Again I am pitched a sprint plan before transferred. The manager finally tells me that she would have UPS call me sometime in the week to pick up the box. I explained I was ready to leave on some business and would be away from home for a weeks time. She tells me this is unacceptable and how I cannot just keep this equipment. I am now feeling I have to defend myself for what I thought was a random act of kindness.. I finally got an address of a factory store and dropped it off today, Saturday, and I asked specifically for the manager on site. That in itself was a feat to achieve. After they take all MY information they agree to take the box..I made this guy give me a receipt for proof I returned what wasn't mine to begin with just to protect myself from a problem down the line. I mean it could have been a 400 usd pc of equipment in that box... I tell you customer service has gone to ***** in this country and what some of these companies do with their endless automated menus just to speak to a human is unreal.I am not tying to pick on Sprint because they are certainly not alone with this issue..I think next time into the lake it goes...shees |

Not really...I gave them all my information on the first call so I figured perhaps they could pin it on me...you know all of a sudden here comes a 500 bill for equipment and a big ol rumble...collection letters, blah, blah, blah....

As a dad of three I figure that the best is to set the tone and lead by example. Sometimes it's a goat rodeo...I thought it was funny when my little guy, 6yrs old, says to me today..and I quote, " dad why is it so tough to give the man his little machine back?"...

Near the end of my escapade with DSL, and just prior to my going postal, they decided, without any request from me, to send me another complete modem and d/c power adaptor. I never even considered attempting to return it. It's probably operating acceptably well for the fellow down in GA who bought it on e-bay for $18. I figure it this way: Verizon had consumed at least 25 hours of my time in troubleshooting and customer service for their horrific DSL system. The $18. paid me back for about 10 minutes of my time. |

I'd have just tossed it away. Sorry, I am doing you a favor and you keep me on hold? Screw that.
